First spotted outside our garage on Sunday, although I may have seen her before in the past. No chip, probably around three years old. A bit nervy, and liable to bite or scratch if touched wrongly (base of tail is an absolute no-no), but will also run round hands and accept scritches in some places. Appears to know what a litter box is for. Although she'll eat what's given to her, she doesn't appear to be absolutely ravenous.
She's now sporting a breakaway collar with our phone number on it, in case she has a real home, and will feature on the vets' "found" page on the website.
Watch this space ..... No name as yet, but it can only be a matter of time!

She's still holed up in the garage (side door is open all the time - nothing of value in there, apart from her of course), but an old basket from a plastic vegetable rack has found its way out there, with an old towel in it .....
Seriously, we do need to consider the other two in this. We're giving it a week or so to see if anyone claims her, then get her tested for nasties. And then .... we'll see.

And then .... we'll see. I would also have her scanned for a microchip. The stray I had treated for an abscess was scanned, but not surprisingly, was not chipped.

We haven't ascertained whether or not she's entire yet, so there is always the possibility that she might go into heat. Which leads me to a question .... how do I know if she goes into heat? I've never had entire, adult cats - the two I had as kittens were neutered at an early age, and all those I've got from shelters were already neutered.
Also (and this might be something of nothing), the point where her tail joins her body seems to be very thick, if you get my drift, despite the fact that she's quite a petite cat. Could this be indicative of any past injury?
She spent a little time investigating the house this evening while the resident twosome were out in the garden.
And she's still not told me what her name is. We thought maybe Missy, or perhaps Misty. Or even Dusty. She's already known as Hissy Missy.

Trust me, you will know when she goes into heat. ;o) She will make the most awful howls, sounds you never thought could come out of such a little cat. She will start presenting you and anything else that moves with her bum while the front part of her body lies against the ground. She will be very affectionate, and if she isn't kept inside, she will vanish for at least a couple of days. Then it will already be too late to spay her.

I did wonder whether the 180-desgree turns from cute, endearing little kitty to snarling ball of fluff might have anything to do with it.

LOL, that's what I used to call Isadora, who was another B&W cat. =o) In fact, this pretty girl, even though she's rather differently marked, reminds me very much of Izzy.
I think this cat is choosing new hoomins, Cathi. Melissa
Cathi - 04 May 2005 22:18 GMT >Marina wrote: Aww, a holstein. > [quoted text clipped - 4 lines] > I think this cat is choosing new hoomins, Cathi. > Melissa My first reaction was that she was a holstein, and Richard suggested I call her Ermintrude after the Magic Roundabout cow.
And she looks very like our Izzie, who went to the Bridge years ago now, before I discovered RPCA. Izzie had rather more white, and her blotches were dark tabby, rather than black, but there is a decided similarity - irregular markings, rather than neat tux.
Her language, BTW, ain't pretty ;-)
She spent part of the evening inside, inspecting various aspects of the lounge. I'm more and more convinced that she used to be a pet; she knew exactly what a litter tray was for, and spent a bit of time killing one of Jasper's mousies. She's gone back outside now to the garage, but who knows what tomorrow will bring?
