I hope we can write this one up as a Bastard Cat Trick. She threw up
five or six times more today until there wasn't a thing left in her
little tummy, and she refused to drink anything. I didn't see her go
to the litterbox today either, so I was really concerned. John got
home at 3.30 and we drove her up to the vet, where she got poked,
prodded and x-rayed. The vet said her tummy looks inflamed but she's
not in any pain and more importantly the xray showed no signs of
foreign bodies. So she hasn't swallowed a twist-tie or paperclip,
which was my big worry. It looks like her poor tummy is very irritated
by something :( He gave her an IV of fluid to make sure she's not
dehydrated, an antibiotic shot, and a dose of pepcid and told us not
to feed her tonight. In the morning I have to give her a very small
amount of food and water and watch her to see what happens...
hopefully she'll be okay. If she's not and it comes back up then I
have to call the vet back and he'll book her in for a barium swallow
to see what's going on.

Poor Silly is very hungry... when we got home from the vet she raced
to the bathroom to get food and water and I had to race to take them
up before she ate them! She did have some water before the bowl was
removed and sure enough, she got sick again. Let's hope that's the
last of it... she's started washing herself again, which is a good
sign. She just lay there like a big lump all day long. The cost for
this visit was only $200 which isn't a big deal... we paid half today
and they'll take the other half in a fortnight. Let's hope there isn't
any more to follow.

PS. the xray showed lots and lots of poopies in her intestines - we
now have proof that like politicians the world around, that cat is
full of s##t! :P

It sounds as though she may have eaten something that disagreed with her.
Once it's all out of her system, she should be okay.  Purrs that this is the
case.

As Joy said, hopefully it's only a temporary tummy upset. Or as Margaret
said, maybe she ate a spider that disagreed with her. I hope she'll be okay
again in the morning.

Poor baby.  Hope she just has an upset tummy and not enough sense to let it
rest.

We went through lots of bouts like this with Sugar, and while she didn't
appreciate the very little food or water for 24 hours routine, it was
effective.

If she's "full of it" some gentle tummy rubs may get things headed in the
right direction.

and she's still hungry, huh?  silly cat......

Hopefully she just caught a tummy bug or something.  Her stomach is
probably irritated from all the vomiting.

Purrs that she gets better....

Did the vet send any meds home for her to take?

Only a hairball remedy to give her when she's able to eat, just in
case she's having hair issues... we've never given either of them
hairball stuff because they're shorthairs and they've shown no signs
of having hairballs, but the vet said they should have it anyway...
hopefully they'll agree to eat it! It's tunaflavoured, but so were
their kitty vitamins and they turned their noses up at them after the
first tube.

I had a similar problem with one of my cats.  She got quite thin and was in
the vet hospital for days.  A test showed irritable bowel syndrome and she
had to eat only Hills sensitive dry food for a while.  In time she came good
and is now a chubby happy cat on her normal diet.

Do you have any plants she could have eaten?

Nope. No houseplants at all aside from a couple of silk ones.  Also no
cigarettes for them to eat, no dishwasher (dishwasher sludge is
deadly), and no poisons in the apartment. And they're indoor-only so
they don't have any contact with other animals who might spread germs.
We didn't feed them anything unusual either... so it's a mystery to me
what's made her sick!

Could she have eaten a spider?  The one time we had a prolonged vomit
episode with Oliver I was pretty sure the only unusual thing he had
eaten was a spider.  He managed to throw up on my husband's back not
once but twice in the middle of the night that time.  Good thing his Paw
would forgive him anything.  :-)

Karen, I'm sure it was a relief to find out she didn't swallow anything!
Poor baby -- do cats get gastritis, I wonder?
Hope she feels better by tomorrow --
purrs,

And he didn't see any blockages? Maybe a kitty laxative is in order.
I know from personal experience that if the stuff can't go out one way,
nothing's coming in the other way. In short, if your stomach can't
empty out one way, you throw up. Maybe that's what is happening with
poor Silver?  After she poops, she'll stop throwing up.
Poor baby.

And that's what it was... once she stopped being stubborn and went to
the bathroom (with the aid of the laxotone), things went back to
normal. She's eating and drinking normally, playing and in general
acting like she was never sick.
