It's been a year + 2 days since my last full-time job went to The
Philippines without me, and I was called a little bit ago for my (drum
roll) *3rd* interview in that entire time.
A few purrs could help, as it sounds like they're definitely
interested. I sent my resume to the recruiter last night in response
to one job ad, they flagged me for another job because of something on
my resume that was totally unrelated to that job, called this morning
to gauge my interest in the other job, sent my resume to the other
client's HR people over lunch, and called me back this afternoon to
set up an interview for tomorrow!

Good luck, Jeanne! May they love you on sight, and fall all over themselves
to hire you. I think it's a good sign that they're giving you this "tap"
even if it's not for the job you originally thought you were interviewing
for. I think it means they like what they see in you, and think you can
provide something they need.
Mega Interview purrs, in the meantime! Let us know how it goes.

Jeanne Hedge - 04 May 2005 15:58 GMT
Thanks for all the purrs, but I don't think things went very well.
The headhunter told me this company was looking for someone who knew a
bit of Japanese (it's a Japanese company) who would work on
presentations, who would do some software programming, who would do a
little translating, and who would be writing documentation (among
various other things). I told the recruiter when she called to see if
I might be interested that my Japanese language certification is at
the Beginner level(1)
I arrived at the interview expecting one thing, and the next thing I
knew I was getting grilled in full speed Japanese and catching only 1
word in 3 (if that much). Later I learned that the job is for a 100%
fulltime full-on Japanese conversation translator. Nothing else is in
the job description. Obviously (to me) the headhunter never told the
company I was a beginner, and also obviously (to me) the job
description the headhunter gave me was a work of fiction.
So I there I was, caught in a major disconnect between what the
company wanted and what the recruiter told me the company wanted -
there's no way I'm remotely qualified for a conversational translator
position. Makes me wonder what the headhunter was thinking - surely
they don't get paid by the number of warm bodies they send in for an
interiew.
IMO it was a waste of both of our times, and I lost a day's pay too,
because I had to cancel a substitute teaching assignment to go to this
wild goose chase.
OTOH, I'm very glad to hear other people's interviews are working out
much better!

Proficiency Test level 4 of the 4 exam series. This is part of a test
series offered once/year on the same day worldwide under the auspices

I'm sorry to hear that. I certainly hope you tell the headhunter about it.
It's possible the company completely changed their minds about what they
wanted since setting up with the company you go through and they need to
adjust their description!

OTOH, headhunters often do a "hit or miss" thing (in my experience). No,
they don't get paid for the number of warm bodies they send through. But
they often send people through "just in case" and it turns out to be a waste
of everyone's time (except for the headhunter, who is shuffling through
resumes and making phone calls).

ARGH! I *HATE* it when headhunters "shotgun" people to interviews (on the
premise that if they send enough people, one of them might get the job and
they'll get paid). Not only does it waste *my* time, it wastes the time of
the company doing the interview and makes it harder for the right person to
get the right job. I've gotten to where I question a headhunter *very*
carefully about the position before I agree to go on an interview.
Hugs,

What a shame! It really makes you wonder about the headhunter's motives.
