I was just outside the back door today and I saw Boyfriend catch something
from near the shed.  He is still not an accomplished killer and he threw it
around a bit before he finally got the hang of the killing bite and took it
away down the garden to eat it.
Kitty watched.
Ten minutes later I heard the noise she always makes if she's got prey and
she had a young rat too, paraded it around proudly and ate it all up in my
kitchen.
I always think that if the cats can eat the young ones, it stops them
growing up ;-)

BF is now wondering if his girlfriend Mimi has moved to the UK. If so he
will send her his address.  But he thinks not, he is a very intelligent cat.
He knows very well this is not a real post from his love, Mimi, she lives in
America.

Dear Mimi

I fink I made a orful mistake.  I furrgot you were Weeble's sisfur and I
fort it was another kitty pretending to be you.
I dint me to brake your hart, will you furrgive me?  I was just being a
fatheful boy.
I not cort another rat yet, but Kitty did last night and brort it in show
meowmie.  She a big showoff, she always makes der big wowling noise when she
want meowmie to see what she got.
I don't.  I wate for meowmie to notice.
Today she say to me to listen to her.  I was sitting behind her on der
windowsill.  She say she not very well and got to go away for quite a long
time to get better.  Unca Stan is going to feed us and some of the chickens
until she comes back.  Der geese are going to stay with auntie June, hooray,
now I can go in der orchard in der daytime..so it not all bad perhaps.
She say she tole Kitty last nite wile I was on rat patrol.
After 14 May I fink I not be able to rite to you until July, Mimi.  Will you
wait for me?

Head-biter or tail-biter? Marble always crunches down on the skulls first if
I don't manage to get to him in time. There's nothing quite like the sound
of cat fang munching down on rat skull...

Neck biter for the kill and then the skull goes down first.  Kitty has
taught BF well.  He just needs to learn he has to grip harder to kill
outright, he's getting there. If KFC thinks he's useless she will take his
prey right out of his mouth and crunch it.  Like "that's how it's done.."

I think Molly had a pretty low opinion of Jake when she first started living
here.  All he did was wander about and sleep and kowtow to the resident
humans.  I'm guessing she credited the season with the relative lack of
vermin and birds

Now she seems a bit puzzled that he still doesn't appear to be doing much.
But can often be seen cleaning himself from the remains of prey.

She is starting to realize that Bast forgive, spoiled Temple Cat or no, he
is possible her match.

Kudos to the Mighty Hunters! :o)

I hope their catching some young rats serves a twofold purpose. It
certainly takes those particular rats out of the gene pool. But maybe it
will also convince the mother rat to pack up her remaining offspring and
move to another location. Here's hoping!
