My idea of heaven is *literally* the lamb laying down with the lion... and
all the other critters and me of course, giving them lots of good pettins
:-) . Well, that, and a wonderful library with all the books there ever was,
a nice comfy chair, good coffee and a warm crackling fire. And of course a
very happy and contented critter on my feet or lap.
I would *so* love a perfectly tame black panther. And when I ask Joel "Can I
have a <critter of the week>?" he replies "yes, of course, dear". He is *so*
well trained!

You're not kidding! Normally I scoff at the superstition that a black cat
crossing your path brings bad luck. (All the more so because I was Meowmy
to two black cats for so many years.)
But THAT black cat, the mama jaguar... having HER cross your path when she
was in ill humor would be very bad luck indeed. ;o)

Not only is the bitty jaguar BEYOND precious, but Mama Jaguar is stunningly
beautiful.
The Philadelphia Zoo had a black jaguar for many years... she lived to be
in her 20s, so I literally grew up seeing her there on every visit. I
remember her from the time my age was in single digits, and she was still
there even when I visited the Zoo during my college years. :o) She was too
beautiful for words. The first of those two pictures gives some idea of
how breathtaking a sight a black jaguar is. (And when she was in full
sunlight, you could SEE the black-on-black spotted pattern in her fur, a
fact that fascinated me to no end.)
Finally, some years after I graduated from college, I made another visit
to the Zoo and saw no black jaguar. A docent was there, so I asked her,
and she explained that about two years prior, Onyx had developed cancer
and had to be helped to the RB. The big cat was in her 20s at the time.
At the news, I welled up. All I could think was, "Thank you, Onyx, for
being such an ambassador for ALL jaguars for all those years". And I can
tell you that the RB became an even more beautiful place once Onyx got
there.
