Nancy has now interviewed for 3 different positions with the newspaper
that is the parent of her current employer. All three jobs are jobs she
would enjoy, would pay better than she earns now, and would allow her to
work normal human hours instead of 70 and 80 hours every week. She's
just waiting for the Mangaing Editor to decide which of the jobs to
offer her.

I've been offered two driving jobs. JB Hunt wants me to drive on a
dedicated account serving Pier One stores in CA, NV, and AZ. They offer
better pay, home at least one night during the week, and 1.5 to 2 days
off every weekend. They also offer paid holidays - what a concept!
Overnite Transportation also wants me to drive on a dedicated account,
serving Ferguson Plumbing stores. Same territory, same money, home at
least one night per week and every weekend, and even more paid holidays
than Hunt offers. I'm reviewing both of them now.

And yesterday someone left a message on the answering machine at home,
asking me to call about a programmign job I applied for. I'll be calling
on that as soon as I get to my pickup point this morning.

Purrs for Nancy to get the best job possible.  Purrs for you to find the
right one, too, whether it be staying on the road or doing the programming
gig.

Which one of the two lets you have Harri-road cat with you? That'd be
the deciding factor. If neither, take the one with the most vaccation.

WooHoo! It all sounds very promising. Would the programming job be much
better than the driving jobs?

I called the number. This is starting to look like a sign, if you
believe in such things. The company is Abbott. They make RFID
transponders - the little microchips that TED injects under the skin of
our furkids in case they get lost! What higher calling could there
possibly be for a programmer than helping to reunite lost kitties and
d-pets with their humans?

Now here's the challenge: Abbott is only interviewing for this position
on May 3. My next home time is scheduled for May 9 and can't be moved
forward (I already checked). The load I'm carrying now is scheduled to
deliver in Las Vegas at 5:00 PM May 2.  I did get my dispatcher to
promise to try to get me a load back to my home terminal as soon as I'm
empty in Las Vegas (it's only a 5 or 6 hour drive).

I'm going to make this 900 mile run as fast as I can safely, and see if
I can deliver this load early.

All the purrs y'all can spare would be appreciated. I feel pretty
confident that I can get the job if I can get an interview.

I don't think so. This time out she's been getting really bored with the
long drives. I think she'll welcome becoming a house cat. We'll still do
one day road trips on weekends, but I don't think she'll miss the road life.

Would it be practical to leave the truck parked and take a puddle-jumper
flight back for the interview?

I love brothers.  I'd thought about the flight but knew Harri would prevent
that.

Wow, seems that the job purrs are at least sending offers your way.
Hope the editor makes a decison soon as to which job(s) to off, but of
course they are never in a big hurry. Sounds like the programming job
might be good - on the other hand you just don't know until you get
the details. Would either of the driving jobs let you keep Harri as
your driving partner? Even if they don't, maybe we could mount an
international email campaign demanding that the world famous Roadcat
remain on the road with her Paw.
