Well, as I was expecting, I got a job offer from the company I
interviewed with in Idaho. It's a good offer and a neat job.
Unfortunately, Idaho is not the place for us, so I'm going to turn them
down and keep looking. :(
I've also decided to not tell my employer I have this offer as a way to
get a raise. I know one of my colleagues did that just a few months
back, but I don't think it's ethical. Or safe. :)
I'm not in a position like many in the group, but I could still use a
new job, so any spare purrs would be most appreciated.

I don't think I'd like Idaho either.  But then again, I didn't think I'd
like Illinois or Iowa and they turned out to be okay places.  Purrs on the
way!  And I totally agree with you about not using that job offer as
leverage.

I had a funny situation once where it worked to my advantage.  But the thing
is, I didn't tell my boss about the job offer.  I hadn't told *anyone* at
work I'd gone on an interview.  But he found out, somehow, and he did offer
me a pay increase to stay.  Yet I'd have felt funny going to him and saying
look, I've got this other offer...

Anyway, purrs and all that on the way.  It sucks to be miserable at the
workplace.

Hey Victor, as much as I like Boise, I understand it isn't for everyone.
Purrs and good hunting thoughts for you in the job market.  I think
you're wise not to pull an ethical nasty on your employer.  It may be
legal, but that doesn't make it right and employers do tend to remember
these things when it comes time for raises and promotions.

I got news for some of us....there are workplaces where they have spent so
much time and effort training you and making you an integral part of the co.
machinery (like the place where my DIL works) that this "better pay job
offer" stuff is batted @ your next performance evaluation and *does* result
lin *higher* % raise given to keep you
where you are! It is a recognized part of negotiations *in some work
environments* these days....I am just amazed @ the change in all facets of
employment world these days! In the hospital worker field (where I retired
from) if you mentioned @ performance review your more $ job offer, they
would
- to this day - just smile and offer, "Buh-bye! See ya!".
ROFLMAO.....

One bad thing about using the offer to your advantage would be then you
might feel like you should stay for a while even when you don't want to.

Is the job in upstate NY still a possibility?  I want to hear about 7
cat nights in the beginning of July!  ;-)

Purrs that the purrfect thing comes along for both you and Tom.  Either
a new job or a winning lottery ticket!  :-)

I haven't heard back from them and I misplaced the recruiter's number!!!
But in any case, we really don't want to move if we can avoid it.

I'm buying a ticket. Lotto Texas is up to 50 million...

I know what you mean.  Given how many of the extreme-right-wing types
seem to have settled in Idaho, it probably wouldn't be the safest
place for a gay Hispanic man to settle.

I hope that you find a good position soon, and that Tom will also be
able to find a good position.  Given a lot of companies' rules on
conflicts of interest, you probably won't both be able to work for the
same company, or at least not in the same department.

Purrs are a,ways available in unlimited quantities. BTW, I didn't get
either of the jobs I applied for earlier in the year, but I'm doing OK
where I am so it's not such a big loss. Might just have been more
interesting. Ah well.
