Marina - 27 Apr 2005 10:37 GMT The other day (the 24th to be exact), Mere had been with us for a month.
Nikki chases Mere around every day now. It's usually Mere who initiates the chase by 'tagging' Nikki, but sometimes Nikki just comes out of the blue and attacks Mere. Mere loves every minute of it, because when Nikki stops, Mere will go back and tag her to get her playing again. Sometimes they even wrestle, but Nikki seems to be very careful, because I haven't found one scratch on Mere to date. It's usually the bigger cat who stops, I've noticed. When Frank and Nikki wrestle, it usually ends when Frank lets out a scream. When Nikki and Mere wrestle, it ends when Nikki hisses.
I've seen Frank steal a few licks at Mere's forehead, but they don't play the way the girls do.
Mere has taken on the job of keeping my bed safe with admirable gusto. It seems that I don't have bedmice. No, every night after I've gone to bed, Mere starts chasing the bed _elephant_*. The beast is several times larger than her, but she kicks it into submission every night. Brave girl! She also valiantly chases away the sheet greeblings when I make the bed. It seems that they get evrywhere, on the bottom sheet, under the top sheet, under the cover. She's even poked some out from under the pillows.
*She attacks my legs, my thighs, my hips, and sometimes even my arms. She bites and bunny-kicks. Luckily her teeth or claws don't reach through the covers or I would look like a pin cushion all over by now, instead of just on my back where she jumps up and climbs me.

I really didn't think Nikki would tolerate Mere like she obviously does. Good for you! Elisabet
Marina - 27 Apr 2005 11:45 GMT > LOL! > I really didn't think Nikki would tolerate Mere like she obviously does. > Good for you! No one could be more surprised than I am at Nikki's behaviour. I was sure that Frank would be the one making friends with Mere first, and Nikki maybe never. I thought at best she would just barely tolerate Mere. I can't take credit though. The girls have worked it all out between themselves.

It doesn't sound like she bothers him very much but just that they aren't best friends yet. I hope that they work it out soon!

Frank is still a bit wary of Mere. She doesn't have any respect for him, and sometimes attacks him when he is eating or snoozing peacefully, and of course, he doesn't like that. But now that Nikki plays with her more, she doesn't bother Frank as much. And as I said, I've seen Frank sneak a few licks at Mere's forehead. Mere still has a lot to learn about inter-cat dynamics. She will throw herself down and show her tummy to Frank and look very submissive, but when he reaches over to sniff at her, out shoots her paw and she baps him, and then he's upset and comes to me to complain. ;o) Mere hasn't quite learned how powerful her claws are, but I think Nikki is teaching her to be more gentle.
I'd say Frank was pretty upset the first week or so, but he's calmed down a lot now and pretty much accepts Mere, though he finds her a bit annoying sometimes. He sometimes follows her around while she's playing and mrrps all the time, as if commenting on what she's doing. Every now and then, he lets out a louder MEOW, as if to say, 'look what she's doing now, Meowmie! Can she do that? Aren't you going to punish her?' He's a real Big Brother. ;o)

What a brave kitten! How could Frank and Nikki have missed this, all those years? =o) I'm glad to hear the household is working out so well. If Frank is giving Mere some kitty kisses now and then, I'd say he's accepted her, even if he finds her a little nuisance. But it's great that the girls get along as well as they do.
Nina climbs ME, too, and I can appreciate the pain. I think she and Mere must be communicating through the CWW (Cat Whisker Wavelength) It's an international feline communications network--incredibly sophisticated, but impossibe to understand by any being that doesn't have whiskers. =o)

The other day, I found the TP partly unrolled and on the floor... Fortunately, there wasn't that much paper left on the roll to begin with. ;o) I'm expecting Mere to flourish as an artist soon, just like Nina.

Jo Firey - 27 Apr 2005 19:01 GMT Can you even imagine now that you considered NOT taking her?

The integration seems to be going well. I hope Frank gets to "mother" Mere soon. He is such a sweetie.
