I was going to write beforehand, but things didn't work out--RL can
sometimes get in the way of best intentions. Anyway, Sheba went in
today for her tooth extraction. She was rather quiet during the long
ride to the vet.
During the preliminary proceedings, she sat nicely in the pan of the
scale. She weighs a paltry 10.1 pounds. She keeps trying to tell me
she should weigh at least 12 or maybe 15 pounds! And my dinner plate
will do the job nicely.
She behaved very nice to the tech and the vet. Thye called her a sweet
kitty. Neverthless, I arranged with the vet to trim her claws;
thinking in advance about my safety in pilling her.
The blood test showed her glucose and her wbc were both high. The
abcess would cause both highs. It also caused the nasal drip/drooling.
During the extraction, the vet noticed the tooth beside the abcess had
almost no root, so she extracted that one also. The rest of the teeth
were in very good condition and got scaled and polished.
She got a shot of Rimadyl and they gave me one pill of it to give her
1/2 on Friday and 1/2 on Monday. I had never heard of that. It is
really long-lasting. She said it is anti-inflamatory and a painkiller.
Sheba also has Clavamox to take.
When they gave me the bill, I noticed they charged for only one tooth
and no charge for the tooth cleaning or claw clipping! Now that is a
nice vet! They are so good with all the pets. And Sheba really likes
them.
When it was time to give her the Clavamox pill, I got a tiny pill cup
with butter in it and rolled the pill in it. Then Jeff held Sheba and
petted her. Then I grabbed the pill in one hand and opened her mouth
with the other and popped the pill in. Then I picked up the pill where
it landed on Jeff's arm and opened her mouth and popped the pill in.
Again I picked up the unbuttered-by-now pill where it landed on her
foot and popped it back in her mouth and held my hand over her muzzle.
I looked all over and on the floor and we didn't see a small white
pill anywhere. So I petted Sheba and told her what a good girl she
was. She purred.
The vet said she may have a bit of pink saliva drooling and that would
be normal for a day or so. She might also have nausea and might not
want to eat much. HAH! Not Sheba! I gave her only 1/2 can of food and
she scarfed it down and asked where was the rest of her supper. So
after a bit I gave the rest to her. But she missed her breakfast and
so she is behind on her calorie consumption. She has spent the evening
letting me know it. No nausea or pink drool. Just plain hunger. She
seems to feel great. That could be partly from no abcess causing pain
and also the effect of the pain killers and maybe a lingering effect
of anesthesia. We will see how she feels in the morning.

She is feeling so good now and is not grumpy anymore. I have no idea
how long the tooth was that bad; maybe years. The old country vet
never found it. The new vet spotted it right away. I am so happy with
the new vet. I called them to tell them and they appreciated the
feedback.
This morning I gave Sheba another buttered pill. It ended up near her
feet on the bed where she was lying. I tried to pick it up fast but
had trouble; she was trying to lick the butter off my fingers! The
second try was successful. She smelled butter and maybe thought the
little hard thing was a lump of delicious butter!
Purrs from all are appreciated.

Lovely, glad Sheba is feeling good and seems to be only hungry, also nice
to have great Vets wish I could meet some of those sort, when I had Henri's
possum wounds drained he quoted $200 and when it was done asked for $240 so
my son Philip said come on she's a pensioner and you told her $200, so he
relented and charged the $200,I'm glad Phil was there cause I wouldn't have
said anything, still at least he dropped the amount Jean.P.

Some vets are so mercenary, like my previous vet. I am glad that
Philip was with you and spoke up for you.
