Purrs for a stray

Adrian - 13 Apr 2005 16:31 GMT My elderly neighbour has been feeding a stray tabby cat for the last two months, I'd never seen this cat untill today. She'd told me a couple of weeks ago that he had a lump on the side of his face, this was a nasty abcess, which burst today. The lady managed to catch him and get him in a carrier and I've just taken him to the vet. TED will put him on antibiotics tonight and operate on his abcess tomorrow. He also has a very large tick on top of his head. When he recovers from his abcess he will be neautered. Where he lives in the end I don't know, he seems to get on OK with my neighbours cat so he'll probably live there, I don't think Snoopy would accept another cat unfortunately, otherwise I'd love to take him in, he is a beautiful cat apart from his injury.

Lots of purrs for the cat to recover soon from his injuries, and for him to have a new home at your neighbour's.

KittyLady - 13 Apr 2005 19:09 GMT Purrs for his healing. Any idea what happened to him? Skritches, Kittylady
CatNipped - 13 Apr 2005 20:06 GMT > Purrs for his healing. Any idea what happened to him? > Skritches, > Kittylady Don't know, just jumping in here... Most of the time if it's an abscess it's because of a fight with another cat. Being an un-neutered tom I'd say that's likely.

Adrian - 14 Apr 2005 21:40 GMT > Purrs for his healing. Any idea what happened to him? > Skritches, > Kittylady It was probably a fight with another cat, as he's an entire tom that wouldn't be surprisng. Since I brought him home from TED he's eaten two plates of food and used his litter box. At the moment he's hiding under the bed in the annex, I'll leave him in peace for now but I'll have to get him out tomorrow to give him his antibiotic tablet. So far things are going well but Snoopy knows something's up and she's being very grouchy. I hope she will eventually accept him if he ends up living here.

Hope Snoopy learns to accept the new guy (I thought he was going to live with your neighbour). I never thought Nikki would accept Mere so soon, but there they are, sleeping in the same bed every night, and sometimes during the day too. Not touching, mind, but still, sleeping in the same bed.

Not touching, mind, but still, sleeping > in the same bed. My neighbour says she too old to take on another cat, she's in her 80s. Snoopy has always seemed to dislike other cats, that included her sister before she went to the RB, and they lived together all their lives. I'm sure we'll work something out. I've called the cat Harvey, I could keep calling him the cat. Luckily he's been eating his food with his antibiotics ground up in it. He's getting more stroppy but is still obviously frightened so I'm glad I don't have to force pills down him.

I've had cats that didn't like other cats, but suddenly took to one. Also, it seems to me that boys and girls usually get along better so you have a plus going there. I'm sure you can work things out. I like the name Harvey :)

calaf - 14 Apr 2005 05:33 GMT ALL non-breeding (meaning nearly ALL) cats must be neutered or spayed. It's amazing to me how often it is that non-feral tom cats are very docile and affectionate with people. Lacking totally in aggression.

So many of the stray Toms come up positive.
Purrs to the poor little guy! -L.

Purrs for the little fellow. Here's hoping he settles down to the good life at his new home soon.
Adrian - 14 Apr 2005 16:07 GMT I've just picked up the stray tabby from the vet. He's had his wound cleaned and been given antibiotics, plus a course of tablets over the next week. He'll be going back to TED next week for a check-up, meanwhile he'll be staying in my annex where he'll be warm and dry and away from my cats. TED says he's at least 10 years old, so I think it's about time he had a home and a slave to take care of him. He'll be neautered as soon as he's recovered from his injury, I wonder how many kittens he must have fathered in the last decade.

Arthur Shapiro - 14 Apr 2005 18:41 GMT >I've just picked up the stray tabby from the vet. How nice! He must be reasonably friendly if he was able to be captured and handled at the vet.
It would be great if you could keep him - is the situation hopeless with Snoopy?

He's not that friendly, I think the reason he was able to be caught was because he was in a lot of pain and frightened. He's obviously feeling a lot better today, he's being much more aggresive, I hope he'll calm down a bit by next Wednesday when he has to go back to TED, otherwise I'll need some protective clothing to get him in the carrier.
I don't think Snoopy would ever accept him, Bagheera has been here over a year now and Snoopy still barely tollerates him.

Yay! I just read your first post and wondering, are you keeping this guy or your neighbor? It makes me feel good that after all this time that this guy is getting a home! You and your neighbor are so good to take care of him.
