Ernie & the TP

Magic Mood Jeep? - 12 Apr 2005 14:41 GMT
After starting a load of laundry, and calling Mom to check in, I hear this
PEEP, PEE PEEEEEEEEE EEEK EEEK.  We have had the back porch opened 24/7 for
about a week now, so the kitties can enjoy the birds & other critters.  I
think there's an angry Cardinal out back (Cardinals only do a "peep" kinda
sound), so I go & look.  Nuttin.  I keep hearing that noise.  I follow it
back into the house.... to the bathroom.

I find Ernie sitting on the toilet (lid down so kitties not decide to drink
from the dirty water), pawing at the TP.  The PEEEPing noise I'm hearing is
the sound that the holder makes every time Ernie swats at the TP.  The roll
of TP is half shredded, and a mound of shredded TP is resting on the
(lidded) waste basket underneath it.

This was a fresh roll of TP I put out last night.

Ernie looks at me with the big innocent Puss-n-Boots eyes he's sooooooo good
at, while I laugh & shoo him away.  I get my cell phone to take a quick
snapshot & send it to DH's cell phone.  He messages me back asking "did you
have to go that bad?".  Ha Ha.  NOT!

I 'clean up" the roll, sparing what I can, and pitch the rest into the waste
basket.  When I open it, I see another pile of shredded paper in there.
Ernie must have been busy last night, and DH cleaned it up when he got up
for work!

Anyway, TP roll is now tucked out of reach of kitty-paws (on the wicker
'tower' over the tank), to be placed on the holder only in times of need.
At least until Ernie 'forgets' that TP is fun ;)

And Ernie is following me around the house now, doing his best 'sulk' and
trying to look pathetic and bored since I took his 'toy' away.

Little ratbags. I was just wondering though, if someone invented a TP
holder that was cat-resistant, would cat lovers really buy it? It
wouldn't be half as entertaining.

They already sell those humungous round covered ones for public restrooms.
I'd imagine guests would be surprised to find one of those in someone's
house!

Well.... MAYBE it wouldn't be as entertaining, but since Nina had a GREAT
time with the TP yesterday while I was at work, I've been tempted to invest
in one ANYWAY.  Alas, once they get the "TP is fun!" idea, I don't think
they outgrow it.

That's not true.  Cardinals can sing beautifully.  The "peep" sound is to
warn others out of their territory or to signal distress.

, so I go & look.  Nuttin.  I

Whoa! I had a cat once (Marley) who loved to shred TP, but since him,
nothing thank goodness. Though I do find empty rolls around the house
- the kittens drag them out of the trash and shred them. ;)

Reminds me of a story written by Derrick Longden about his cat, Thermal.
Thermal got annoyed with Derrick and so went and shredded the toilet
paper. The way Derrick worded the story, was "Thermal looked at me, and
said "wipe your a$$ on this then!".

If you ever get the chance, read the book - it's called

"The cat who came in from the cold", by Derrick Longden.

Hysterical and a must read for all catslaves!

I'm lucky mine have never been interested!
Jo Firey - 12 Apr 2005 21:49 GMT
We have been very lucky.  Once in a blue moon one of our cats has had a go
at the TP.  But none of them has ever made a habit of it.

Not to try and start an old Ann Landers debate, but I find that if I put up
the TP so the edge is on the outside we are less likely to leave any
tempting hanging bit.

What a cutie. Cheeky likes to shred paper of all kinds.
Singh - 13 Apr 2005 04:29 GMT
TP is not safe in our house, especially on a roller. For that matter, it's
not safe on its own. TP has often been made prey by the Juvies, who will
relentlessly hunt it given the chance.

Stosh, in his machismo, started this long before his partner in crime came
along. Not just any roll would do. It had to be a fresh, new roll, the
bigger the better. He was a little scrawny thing when we took him, and he'd
go after the rolls of TP, carry them around in his mouth to someplace where
he could beat the snot out of it in relative peace. When we tried to put it
on the roller, he just got the end and dragged the whole thing all over
kingdom come. Brandy, who just idolizes her big bro, learned very quickly to
hunt TP, and God help us if we were down to the last roll! We still have to
retrieve the paper from a hiding place, full of teeth and claw marks.

Blessed be,
Baha

Silver loves to chew paper, but she doesn't seem to associate it with
the roll of white stuff that meowmie and daddy use in the bathroom.
I've only seen her with it once, when the roll was left dangling - and
even then she only pulled off a couple of sheets and took them away to
chew on.

There is a reason that the TP in the main bathroom isn't on the holder.
Pine Cone thinks that he's supposed to use the paper to cover up his
litter box leavings, if it is on the holder.  Needless to say, this
doesn't go over well with the house residents who have to use that room
for human purposes.

PC is a self centered, smug, reprobate who's idea of entertainment is to
try to snag your hair with one claw as you pass his resting place on top
of the cat condo.  He also is gearing up for setting sail and has
started to boss the other cats around as though they were already at
sea.  The stinker.
