I'm coming here first because y'all seem to know how to fix all these techie problems! Suddenly what's happening is that if I go to save a picture from an email or a website, it automatically changes it to a bitmap and the file name is untitled. It's really annoying. I've had this same problem before with my old computer but of course, now I can't remember how I fixed it. I tried going to that place where it lists all your available file extensions and it did have jpgs there, so at this point I'm at a total loss. I'll probably remember in the middle of the night ;) Or someone else will post it, and I will end up smacking myself on the forhead (a-la V8-commercial style), saying "THAT's *IT*!!!!" --? Fields OK, I went to www.ask.com (commonly known as Ask Jeeves, you can typ in a regularly worded question and you get search results similar to Google), and it took me to a website that had thousands of such non-computer-geek questions, and this was one of them (almost word for word what I typed in ;) I used "computer" instead of "internet explorer") Text from web site is: Question: Internet Explorer only saving images as BMP files. Answer: This issue is caused when Microsoft Internet Explorer has a damaged or corrupt file to resolve this issue follow the below instructions. 1.. Empty your Temporary Internet files. 2.. Delete any Unknown or Damaged objects by clicking Tools and Internet Options. Within the General tab of Internet Options click the Settings button. Click the "View Objects" button. This fixed it. Although I did have to restart my computer for the changes to take effect. I just name it something and add the .jpg after it. Now saving off a website, that seems (to me) to depend on the site, some are already bmp files, so when I save I just add the .jpg extension. Seems to work on my system. Hopefully, someone is smarter than I am, and can tell you how to fix it, so it goes back to how it worked before. Sorry not to be of much help. Britta, If this is what I think it is, and you're using Internet Explorer, it's a simple fix. You just need to empty your browser cache (where temporary internet files are stored). Tools | Internet Options | click the button that says Delete Files It might take a while, if your cache is really full, but every time I've seen where IE wants to save non-BMP files as BMP files it's been because the cache is stuffed.
