Scout likes to sleep on the desk behind my computer, so I get a good
chance to observe her dreams... sometimes her little paws or ears
twitch. And sometimes she opens her eyes to slits and twitches all
over, especially her hind legs. She looks really weird then, because
her eyes are rolled most of the way back so you just see the whites.
If you pet her, she settles down, stretches out and puts her paws in
front of her face and mrrps... then she goes back to sleep. Is this
normal dreaming behaviour? It's kind of cute, but kind of disturbing
too... I wonder if she's having a kitty nightmare?

This sounds pretty normal to me. I've read that when their paws twitch,
they're dreaming that they are running or hunting (not that I know how
anyone could know that, but it does make sense).

Captain and Stanley, especially Captain, twitch a LOT in their sleep.
They're probably dreaming about wrestling one another, lol, considering
how much of their awake time they spend using one another for playtoys.
:o)
They seem to sleep a bit more quietly now that they're a little bit older
(just turning one year old today). Or maybe I'm just used to their sleep
patterns so it doesn't attract my attention as much. But they still twitch
in their sleep.

Harri does that, usually when she's sleeping in my arms. I'll be driving
down the road with a sleeping kitten in my arms, then I feel the tail
start to twitch, then the paws, sometimes the ears and mouth. Once I
heard her make a mewling sound while she was dreaming, so I assumed she
was crying in her dream (nightmare) and woke her up gently. If she
doesn't make noises I'll let it go on for a while, then gently wake her.
I just don't really know how to tell if they're pleasant dreams either.

I figure the dreams where they're smacking their lips and licking their
chops are good ones. If I see them smiling or making one of their
pleasure noises, it is also a good dream. Pine Cone no longer has those
dreams where he'd whimper, growl, and thresh, like he's trying to climb
a tree, so I think he's over the worst of his in the wild nightmares.

I don't know if it's a nightmare or just dreaming. Persia occasionally
twitches and sometimes mews in her sleep, too. Considering I've been known
to get up and (sleep)walk around I wouldn't find Scout's behavior alarming.

Both my kittens will twich & mrrp now & then while they sleep. I like to
belive they are dreaming of sunlight meadows full of flowering catnip...

On a few occasions Snoopy has woken herself up when having a nightmare,
sometimes she looks really frightened. I talk to her to calm her down
and she's soon purring, I dread to think what she's dreaming about and
what she went through before she owned me.
