A cat who goes out and catches a big birdie needs to know beforehand what he
intends to do with it.
It annoys me intensely if he wakes me up and says (with the birdie in his
mouth)  what should I do now?

At least Boyfriend is waking up someone who knows what to do with it.
Stupid Jake used to take birdies into Mommy in bed to ask.  And he didn't
even kill them first!

He is such a pathetic boycat.  He'd starve to death without the kibble Mommy
puts out.  But he's starting to learn now that he has a good teacher.  I
still have to kill the birdies, but he saw me eating one and tried it and he
liked it.  And it is really easy to catch the birdies that are teasing him
cause he can't catch them.

That's the boycats for you, Kitty! Pathetic, aren't thay? It took me
*ten years* to teach Frank to hunt properly.

Ah, well, Nikki, I spose he's coming on as quick as he can, being a wuss
like he is.
Meowmie's friend Jen who as free kitties herself calls him "a big girl's
blouse."  Parrently dat mean he just a gentle boy (says meowmie.)  Jen nose
everything bout cats.  She sed she could make me her frend.  I up on her
chest and let her pet me for ten minutes and I purred and purred.   Den I
hissed at her and bit her hand..  LOL.  Den I ran off.

Must be a boy-cat thing... My Chablis knows what to do with the birds she
catches... She EATS them.... & leaves the head for the stupid boy muscat...
He can't catch birds on his own yet.... Just like lions, the woman does ALL
the work.

Well, if so Rocky (RB) was an exception. Course he lived on his own
for a long time before deciding to retire from the feral life. I was
once sitting looking out the sliding glass door while Rocky napped on
the patio - or so I thought. I glanced away and when I looked back he
had two blue jays pinned to the ground. Normally when he caught
something there was no playing around, just crunch and he ate it. That
time, though, I think he couldn't decide which to eat, and both got
away.

Blue jays, wow!  Now that's ambitious!!!!  As the weather has warmed a
little here, I've been out prepping the garden.  A few days ago I had the
pleasure of watching Chablis being helplessly scolded by a big jay about 10
feet further up a tree than her perch.... The look in her eye was one of
total desire... The Jay was having a grand 'ole time, knowing full well he
was safe...:-)

Yeh, jays are big bullies, and loud (mockingbirds may be worse as far
as divebombing those they doubt want around). Rocky usually just
ignored them. LB either ignores them or watches from a distance. But,
when we're outside Sammy will go into hunting mode, belly to the
ground, tail twitching, etc, and stare up at them while they perch
just out of reach screaming at her.

These two had been yelling at Rocky because he was napping on the
patio and they wanted access to the cat food - which they seem to
prefer over the bird seed in the feeder. They made the mistake of
thinking he was asleep and started ignoring him, and in a flash he had
them down. I think he surprised himself when he actually pinned the
two to the ground.
