I've been on this crochet kick lately. Even at work, I'm granny-squaring as
if my life depended on it. I got it into my head to make a poncho that looks
like I smoke weed on my coffee break and have little dancing bears all over
my computer. The bosses seem not to care because I'm less likely to snap off
on someone, and have been getting more sales referrals, so they leave me to
my arts-n-crafts. besides, I go bats if I don't have something to do with my
hands--the curse of being ADHD and an ex-smoker!
Home is another matter. What IS it with cats and yarn? In twenty years I
have never been able to figure it out. You think I go bats? Breaking out the
yarn causes quite a stir in the house, particularly among the Juvies. Brandy
and Stosh like to hunt the skeins and drag them to another part of the
house, where they get into a vicious yarn brawl and I end up having to pick
up and roll something that looks like a plate of spaghetti thrown in a major
temper tantrum. Roxie, more sedate, will watch intently and swat at the
yarn, or sit on top of the backrest on my couch and take a few swipes at my
crochet hook. And Odessa will watch as intently as Roxie, but has a look on
her face like, "What IS that stuff wiggling around, and what is Mama doing
with it, and why is everyone going berserk over it?" Formerly feral, Odessa
is still learning to play, and studies her siblings playing like an
anthropologist spying on a primitive tribe for a National Geographic story.
Yesterday Stosh tried to dig into my bag of almost-finished poncho to get at
the yarn. He and Brandy will jump at it, try to bite it in midair, and once
tried to drag off the whole poncho while I was tying off a knot.
I'd like to make an afghan, but I'm scared of what they'll do to it.
Especially if and when Odessa decides she likes yarn!
Blessed be,
Baha

I know the feeling.
DH is finishing up a video game (Xenosaga episode 2) so I sat on the
couch with him and started a baby poncho for my soon-to-be-born nephew.
Gossamer hops up between us and settles down. For about 90 seconds.
Then it's "STRING! Mommy I want the string let me play with the string
NOW!".
She's wreaking havoc with my tension :)
Eventually she goes off to the other side of the room to sulk but she
always comes back to give it another try.
DH says it's my own fault since string-like things are her favorite toys.

I don't do crafts like that myself, but my mom does. She cat-sat
last year for me when I went away and she brought her knitting when
she stayed overnight. She said that both Bonnie and Shamrock went
nuts over her yarn. She said after the first night, she brought an
extra skein for them to play with just so they'd leave her project
alone.

I used to cross stitch a lot before I got the kitties. I don't do it
much anymore. But now if I do any sort of sewing or stitching,
Mischief is RIGHT THERE to chase the string.
It really was a probably last year when I bought scrubs and had to hem
my pants. She was right there.
my roomie also does cross stitching. I'll be on the computer and
she'll be stitching ont he couch when suddenly I'll hear, "HEY, GET
OFF!!"

I still cross stitch, and I've started doing a really old yarn-craft
called naalbinding (or single needle knitting). Brenna really likes to
"help" me. It usually goes stitch...stitch..."No!"...stitch..."Give it
here!"...stitch...stitch..."Stop that! Bratcat."...stitch...stitch
..."Dang it, Brenna!"...stitch...

It can't be any worse that Natasha's fascination with a throw that DH
crocheted long ago. Natasha will knead on it till she gets tired and
then let it go. She doesn't want to sleep on it, unless it's on the
bed (rarely). She just gets her kitten issues (she was weaned too
early by a breeder because she didn't meet breed standard) worked out
on it.

SO now she has issues with kneading?
The itty bitty bits don't knead at all, since they were bottle
fed....Kumani's started to pick up from Nox that it's ok to knead
pillows/blankets before you flop on them though. Smokey is our
incessant kneader.
