Well, Otis is still lip smacking and was a total baby lastnight.  He got me
to go to bed earlier than I wanted to and cuddled and purred all night.  He
had his 3:30 AM pee and drink and jumped back into bed for more snuggles.
He tried to keep me from getting out of bed this AM.

His blood work came back looking pretty normal, which is good I guess.  His
urine will be back at 3 PM today (MST) and I'll let you know how that is.
The next step will be teeth cleaning (overdue anyway) to see if there's
something hidden under the gum line or something.  I'm still very worried
about him.

He sounds like a total angel. I love affectionate cats.

Hope it all plays out well Susan.  Chablis went through a major lip smacking
phaze, but it was right in the time she was loosing her baby teeth... I
suspect it's a dental thing & hope it is too... As that would be an easy (if
not cheap) fix...  Good luck.

Good to hear the bloodwork came back normal. Now that I think about it,
a few years ago Frank did some lip smacking, and it turned out he had
some small lesions in the roof of his mouth. They healed after he had
his teeth cleaned, so purrs that that helps for Otis too.

Well, now I would like you to stop worrying for a while.
If all that came out negative for something to really worry
about, dental troubles loom far less serious. I dunno lip
smacking at all....no cats we've had ever did that...but
I will tell you that old Oliver, our Oriental Shorthair who
lived to be 14 eventually, had all his teeth extracted except the 4 front
incisors (biting teeth) as TED advised
his teeth were too far gone for cleaning (Oliver had shown no signs of
distress and ate like a pig). Oliver was
pretty old at the time and the anesthesia was tricky; he
alarmed the staff @ TED's so they kept him extra 2 days for observation, but
he came home fine and ever after
gummed his food w/same enthusiasm for it as always.
So if Otis needs extractions it won't be so bad. BTW.
Oliver's dental surgery happened quite a long time ago,
and TEDs are much more knowledgeable re preferred
anesthesia for old cats these days!

And have better dental equipment designed for cats!

Thanks - I hope that the dental stuff should do it.  his teeth aren't really
too bad but you never really know what's in them though I guess.

In some stupid way, I guess I was looking for something definitive from the
tests that we could treat.  Now we're stabbing in the dark and I still have
the whole tumour fear in the back of my mind.  I come from a family with a
lot of anxiety ;-)

Great news on the bloodwork. We'll be purring for the urine test results
to be just as good! :)
