Hi there:
While TED looked at Otis, Otis smacked his lips 3 times in the first 20
seconds. This continued for the entire exam and he agreed that it was odd.
They took blood today but couldn't get urine. They'll do urine tomorrow AM.
He also suggested a teeth cleaning (Otis has never had it done) to make sure
that there aren't any surprises in there, though it doesn't look terrible
right now. Blood test results will be in by fax tomorrow AM so we can find
that stuff out right away, which is good.
I have this fear that he's got some kind of mass in there somewhere. I feel
like I've opened up a can of worms somehow by going - though I *had* to go.
I don't like this weird feeling that I have about it.
Otis also jerked his head at the end of the blood test so I have to watch
his neck for bleeding or swelling tonight and phone the emergency vet if it
happens.

Susan,
You know you did the right thing in taking him in. I'll keep you both
in my thoughts and best wishes that it is something minor that is
bothering Otis. By the way, getting urine is apparently harder
with some cats than others. They can never get any from Buddha
unless they keep her overnight. She just really totally voids when she
goes, I guess. Good luck.

Purrs for Otis to come through this with flying colors.

It's normally very cute when kitties smack their lips, but it sure is
odd for Otis to start doing it so suddenly and so frequently. Purrs
that it's nothing serious.

Oh purrs for Otis to be OK. I completely understand being nervous. It is
just natural and well, they are our babies. Please keep us posted.

... and I forgot to mention that Otis has gained weight! He is 14.2 pounds,
which is about a pound too heavy. They've been on a diet for a while but it
doesn't seem to be taking. I might have to scale it down some more.
Right now they get one can of Iams wet, one cup of Walthams PH control dry
food, and one wet pouch of Iams. They used to just graze before they hit
their midlife paunches this year.

Best wishes from his UK namesake too! Do you get "Absolutely
Fabulous" there? If you do and you know who Joanna Lumley is,
apparently her cat's called Otis too.

Purrs that TED finds out what's troubling Otis, and that it's easily
sorted.
