Well it looks like my bid to enter Sonya in the Guinness World Records
as the world's longest feline pregnancy is doomed to failure.

Sonya is in stage 1 of labor.  If she doesn't stop, she will probably
have the kittens in the wee morning hours of Sunday, Easter.  She has
gone into hiding under Mandy's bed, has been shredding newspaper,
licking what parts of her lower body she can reach, and is putting out a
clear, yellowish liquid.  You can see the contractions rippling across
her tummy at irregular intervals.  I think I'm going to be a grand-meow
within the next 12 to 15 hours.  It is currently 10:00 pm Eastern
Standard Time.

AHA!!!! Clear discharge from the vulva!!

We are definitely in labor.

I'm assuming you are ready with all the supplies?  Towels, string,
betadyne, bulb to clear out the mouth, camera with charged
batteries.....

Yaaaaayyyyyy!

This is so exciting!  Big purrs that momma and kittens make it through the
process healthy, and purrs for the human family to stay sane.

Woohoo!
Of *course* Sonya chose Easter Sunday for her babies - a day
guaranteed to be the most expensive and most inconvenient day for
finding a vet!  She's a cunning one!

At least now you have a firm theme for the babies' names.  In
Australia, where rabbits are a huuuuge ecological problem, we can buy
not only Easter bunnies, but also Easter bilbies.  Bilbies are an
endangered Australian animal and are extremely cute.  They have big
ears and long legs, so if Sonya has any big-eared, long legged babies,
maybe you can call it Bilby!

FWIW, most cats I know have done best when left alone to birth.  Just
relax and let her do her thing. :)  She will be a great Momma - and you
will be a Great Grand-meowme. :)

True, but one of mine when she had her first (and only) litter woke me up at
3:30 a.m. screaming. Yes, literally screaming. Must have been scared of the
labor pains. Another, many years ago, wen she had her one litter, would not
let me out of her sight. She was laboring in a cupboard in the pantry (her
chosen nest) and I had to lay on the floor with the top half of my body
inside the cupboard the whole time. Once I got up because I needed to use
the human litterbox, and mamacat followed me, dragging a kitten by its
umbilicus. Of course I stopped and went back to midwife duty despite my
swollen and aching bladder.

So consider yourself lucky if Sonya is one of the independent ones that
wants her privacy!

Hooray for Sonya! =o) I'm sure she must be relieved that she can stop
looking like a Dirigible on stilts. =o)
I think Easter Sunday is a lovely birthday for her babies. I hope all goes
well for Mama and her little ones, and that you'll see adorable babies by
morning. (And now you can have your hallway recarpeted!)

Congrats, and champagne and all that,
