Bandit is going back to the vet today at 5:30 to get her stitches taken out
(wish me luck holding her down and *away* from the vet during that!!!). She
seems much better, but still acting a little depressed - I don't know
whether that's from the sorry condition she looks (this is a *very* prideful
cat and having a "buzz cut" and scars over 30% of her body is very
demoralizing to her), or because she's still in pain and no longer being
given the pain meds, or because she's coming down off of the painkillers
that she's been on for 2 solid weeks (maybe a bit of withdrawal???).
I'll take pictures of all her wounds when I get her home this afternoon so
you can see how they're healing (the one on her belly has almost
disappeared!!!).

That's really good healing for an old cat with such nasty-looking burns!
If she seems a bit down, she probably just needs a bit more rest and
recovery time before she bounces back entirely.
Good luck with preventing her from assaulting the vet and assistant! I'm
sure if you explain to her very carefully that the stitches have to come
out, she'll understand she shouldn't attack the people taking them out!

Good luck! I hope she perks up soon.

oooohh, that is NOT a job I would want, taking out Bandit's stitches.
I'd totally let one of the vets do it.
Purrs that it goes smoothly and no one get hurt.....too badly

Good luck with the stitches removal.
Poor girl must be wondering when all the disruptions to her nice life will
end. I remember that Otis was bummed out for a while after all of his
surgeries on his foot. After he got over the hump, he came back with a
vengeance. I'm sure that all the reasons you listed are getting her down in
the short-term but that she'll perk up as soon as she's a bit more
comfortable and her routine is re-established. She is lucky to have such a
dedicated caregiver.

Yeah, she's never been sick before in her long life and the last time she
had to stay at the vet's was when she was spayed almost 15 years ago! This
is certainly unusual for her and it is very upsetting.

Aww! I'm glad to hear that. Bandit was never very "frisky" - the way I can
tell that she's getting better is that she's back to hissing swatting at
everyone who comes near her and trying to bite my hand when I pet her! ;>

I don't feel like a didicated caregiver - I still feel like a total sh*t for
not finding the original burn until it had turned gangrenous. Yes, I know
it's not my fault - with her thick Maine Coon type hair even the vet didn't
find the second burn during a close examination with Bandit under sedation,
it took her hair falling out before I found that one (and neither of us
found the *third* burn until the surgery for the second). But it still
hurts to know that she had to be in extreme pain for almost 10 days before I
found it. Ah well, it's time to get over it and go on to spoil her rotten
(as if she's not already!! ;>).

Ah, scars just show how tough you are...ask Nox. They also serve as a
warning not to touch kitty belly lest you be exsanguinated.
Good luck on keeping your blood inside you...

Continued purrs - purrs she lets the stitches be removed painlessly (that
part is for the vet, not for her). Purrs she perks up quickly. Purrs for
you for all the stress you've been under.
