Marina - 24 Mar 2005 17:31 GMT From the minute I stepped in the door, Mere was all over the carrier I brought (equpped with a t-shirt that I've been sleeping in the past couple of nights). She also came and begged me to lift her up. She is so incredibly at home with me!
My sister kindly gave me a lift home with Mere. I was glad that I didn't have to make the trip by train and bus, though she was a very good traveller. Not a peep out of the little girl all the way, and she mostly looked like she was sleeping. A nice change from Frank, who does *not* like travelling, and Lets The Whole World Know.
I asked my sister to carry Mere into my flat. Not that it made any difference. Nikki came up, sniffed long at the carrier. Then she hissed. Then she started coughing, like she always does when she hisses, because of her asthma. She ran away, and peered around a corner at the carrier. Then Frank came out. I think Mere thought it was the same cat, or maybe she thought that all black and white cats are meanies, so she hissed (a pathetic little hiss) at him. Frank was very offended. Since then, he's tried to approach her several times, mrrrrping and mrowing at Mere all the time in a very friendly manner, but Mere is worried renough that she just hisses at him. Frank cannot figure out why she is so mad at him, when he just wants to be her friend.
Nikki still hisses at her, but there has been nothing more aggressive. Mere seems a bit worried, and hides away, except when she begs to be lifted up. Then she just settles on my bosom as if she was born there. I can't believe how comfortable she is with me! But I don't want to hold her too much, because Frank and Nikki clearly get upset that *their* lap is taken.
I did shut her into the bathroom for a while, but Frank hates closed doors, and kept complaining at it, and when I peeped inside, I saw Mere cowering under a cabinet, so I thought I'd better leave the door open. There seems to be a truce now. Mere is sleeping inside Nikki's tent (that she doesn't use any more), Frank is sleeping on the bed. He and Nikki both come and take a peek at the little one every now and then, but they don't go too close. This is going so much better than I expected.
I just uploaded a couple of pics to my Webshots album, but it takes a while before they appear. Will let you know.

I'm glad its going better than expected. Poor Frank being dissed like that - I'm sure he'll be a favourite uncle soon!
In some other thread somewhere, I posted that Mere is going to *know* that she's adopted - one of these things doesn't look like the others .... LOL
Thanks for keeping us posted, I'll be checking back all day!

Mere is such a sweet little thing! She looks so tiny and helpless and harmless - although, of course, that may be misleading and she may turn into a hoolikitten. It looks like she has faint stripes on her tail.

It looks like she has faint stripes on her tail. She does have faint stripes on her tail, and faint stripes on her body, but those are supposed to fade away as she gets older. She is so tiny, or rather, loooooong but very thin. She purrs for me.

Barbara Gordon has become Oracle now that she is a paraplegic. The new Batgirl's name is Cassandra.
***CORRECTION*** I visited a site that told me Babs used to be a librarian. Heh. You learn something every day. Apparently the first Batgirl ever was named Betty Kane.

She is just adorable, and she will be a beautiful adult, I think! Lucky Marina!
I'm glad the introductions have been less stressful than you feared they might be. Probably the best thing will be to let the cats work it out for themselves so that each of them finds a comfortable level with the newcomer, unless it sounds like kittencide is imminent. Mere has a lot to take in, unfamiliar surroundings and unfamiliar cats. It's only her first day in her new home, after all. But Frank's attitude seems promising, and Nikki doesn't seem to be ruminating on ways to make Mere's death look like an accident. Be sure to give the established cats lots of love and attention to make sure they know they're still loved.

Not sure if I was able to explain Nico's colour correctly. His individual hairs have different colours on them, and when one looks at his fur closely, one can see the different shades of white, grey, etc. I'll have to try to get an extreme close-up of his fur somehow, if he'll let me, that is...

That's what i don't like about Webshots; you have to sign out before you can post a link to a picture. You don't have to do that in Yahoo.
Is Nico's fur what is called 'ticked'? Like an Aby's? So there are several colours in one hair? Sort of striped from the root to the tip. I don't know if Russian Blues have that, but I seem to remember that they only have two layers of fur, while other cats have three. Mere's fur is very, very short and soft. A bit like Frank's, though Frank's is a little longer but just as soft, and so different from Nikki's longer and much coarser fur.

Well, the link to Webshots is in my sig, and the pic in question is in Nico's folder, the last one where he's curled all over the pic.
Yes, some of his hairs seem to be striped vertically, but not all I've seen. And on his paws and face the cover fur is silvery and the underfur is darker, giving his face and paws a silvery sheen, like the one of Mere where she's checking the fruit basket. Laku's fur is fluffier, longer and softer than Nico's. Nico's fur is more flat along the body.

Will let you know. This is wonderful Marina! I have to say that it took Shamrock about a day to be interested in the kittens, but Bonnie took a little longer - about a month. But she was never mean to them, just hissed at them. But something happened that changed their relationship. Something catty that I am not privvy to. ;)
She's just adorable. I had a peek at the pics. More!!

It sounds like Frank is ready to adopt another kitten and Nikki doesn't seem to be objecting *too* much. Purrs that the integration continues to go smoothly.

This is going so much better than I expected. Mere is so adorable! Frank hasn't changed a bit in a decade and a half. It's encouraging that they're both curious about the new kitten.
Mere obviously loves you, and Frank loves Mere. It is going very well.

I can't get over how comfortable she's been with me from the start. She snuggles up to me and squirms around in my lap like she is trying to cover as much of me as possible. She likes to be held like a baby. She's so different from how Frank and Nikki acted when I first got them. Neither of them wanted to be held at all.

I have a soft spot for grey cats. She has the angular face and long skinny build of my sweetheart Cheeky. And I notice she has some tabby stripes on her tail! Mere is a real heart stopper! I'm glad the introduction is going well. Most cats work it out among themselves pretty well in my experience.
