I do worry about him, with all he's been through in his life, he's
only got about 2 lives left now! He's had: 1 broken leg (now pinned)
with pneumo thorax that he got falling of scaffolding. Broken wrist
falling off balcony when he tried to catch a pigeon.
I moved to a house with an enclosed garden so he can go out, other
cats come in and he chases them but won't (or can't) climb the fence
to chase them,it's so funny to watch him.
He's also had bladder stones - had to take him off dried food, then he
had thryoid trouble and had to have his pituitary gland removed, now
he's diabetic and has just been diagnosed with kidney problems too.
You'd never know he's ill to look at him though, he thinks he's a
kitten since he's been on insulin, it's given him a new lease of life.
He's 15 going on 5! The vet told me never to let him out in the
street (which I wouldn't anyway), as he's the eternal teenager, which
was a polite way of telling me he's not all that bright - but he is in
some ways.
Anyway, I hope I haven't bored you all, and I'm off to bed now (he has
to stay downstairs as he snores too loudly to come upstairs, also he
likes to rustle the carrier bag in my waste bin at 7am to get some
breakfast, and I work nights!

Well there is nothing like a cat with character!! I sure hope that he does
well from now on. He has certainly survived a lot of trouble, so he must be
a real sturdy fellow. He sounds adorable.

He's black with a little white bit on his throat.

Ooooh - my first cat, as a child, was named Scamp. He was pure black with a
white spot under his chin. I have a fondness for black and white cats.

When I was in Spain I saw a whole colony of cats exactly the same as
Otis, guess who spent most of her holidays feeding and playing with
them? One died with me, it was so sad, poor little thing had flu and
I used to go to him every day, bathe his eyes, cuddle and feed him as
he wasn't eating much, but in the end he died. I paid for a local vet
to come and look at them all as they were being quite well looked
after by tourists. I must have got fleas on my clothes from them
somehow as my cat got them when I got home, and at that time he never
went out or came into contact with other cats, so he wasn't best
pleased with me!

Welcome to the group, Marcia. Older cats can be so rewarding, my Snoopy
is also 15, Bagheera is now 20 months.

A house is not a home, without a cat.

Thanks. By the way I sometimes am logged on as Masha, as I can't
always get newsgroups to work properly and I have to change onto
Outlook. Otis is a very special cat, he's lived with me since he was
a kitten and we've been through a lot of stuff together. I work
shifts and my partner says Otis is always by the door 5 minutes before
I'm due home, weird!

Welcome to the group, Marcia. I've had Frank since he was 5 months and
he is now 17 years, I've had Nikki since she was eight weeks, and she is
now 16 years old. They've both been with me for the larger part of my
adult life (I'm 40 now), so I know what you mean about being through a
lot together.
