Hi,

Thanks so much for all the purrs for Nadia and the kittens.  Please
keep them coming when you can.

Nadia saw the vet yesterday afternoon.  I was worried because she
felt really hot to me, especially her ears.  Since she has so
much going on with her health, I thought it best to go ahead and
take her in.  Her temperature is a bit high, but the vet felt it
was to be expected because of her infections.  Fortunately, it was
not "scarey" high.

Nadia is a handful to medicate.  I have to put ointment in her eyes
3 times a day and give her antibiotic once a day.  She also had
loose stools several times yesterday so the vet gave me flagyl.
The stool sample came back negative for all nasties, so I'm going
to wait a day or two and see if she needs the flagyl or if it is
just the stress of moving and getting seperated from her kittens.
I hate to give it to her if she doesn't really need it - it is the
most awful, foaming mouth stuff.  I have to wrap her up like a very
tight burrito for medication, and she still manages to scratch me
up.  Otherwise, she is a love though.

She played with me this morning for the first time.  First with a
feather and then with a ball on a string.  I was so pleased.
She must be feeling at least a bit better.

Thanks again.  I'll update how she is in a few days.

Sorry, I've been a bit pushed and didn't get time to post purrs for your
original post on Nadia.
Poor girl.  Her kittens are suddenly gone, I think probably I would have hot
ears too..

Felix got the runs last time he was on antibiotics, and his TED
assured me that's just a normal side effect.

Diarrhea is a common side-effect of antibiotics in humans as well.
The antibiotic kills off the beneficial bacteria in the gut as well as
the harmful bacteria in the wound.  The usual way of dealing with this
in humans is to eat some yogurt each day, as the bacterial culture in
the yogurt will help stabilize matters.  Check with your vet to see if
this would be a good treatment for your cat.  Plain yogurt, with some
favorite food of Nadia's mixed in, would probably be better for her
than some sweetened variety.  Since the lactobacillus in yogurt break
down lactose, this should work without producing further diarrhea from
lactose intolerance.

Mild diarrhea, in adults or humans, is nothing to worry about. More
severe diarrhea, especially with certain antibiotics, needs to be
checked, as it can be a sign of a dangerous (and treatable)
complication, pseudomembranous enterocolitis.

That's what my vet recommended, so it's OK for cats to eat yogurt - in fact
most of them love it.

Hi,

Thanks for the yogurt tip.  I'd forgotten about that.  I
got some for her and she likes it.  We are finished with
the antibiotics now so with that and the yogurt her
stools seem to be getting more normal.

We will, and we're throwing in some for you, as well, to help you with
the medicating.
