I'm a bit disappointed

I mean, I never thought Vino was exceptionally smart or anything, but
what happened this morning (even though it worked out in my favour)
*was* a bit of a disappointment.
Vino began bugging me in the early morning hours to get up.  Much
earlier than usual.  My efforts to get him to stop weren't successful
and since I was feeling rather rotten, I got up and put him in the
spare bedroom across the hall.
I went back to sleep and woke up hours later to the sound of Vino
scratching on the door of the spare room.  It was time to get up
anyway, so I went to let him out of "jail".  What do I see?  He's
scratching on the open door!  I guess the door hadn't clicked in
properly and every time he stopped scratching, the door opened a
crack.  He can pull open the door to our bedroom when it's cracked, so
why can't he open other doors this way?!?

LOL! Rufous is the same way. For some reason pulling is not easy for
him, so he just pushes... :)

Stinky pushes and pulls.  If there's somewhere where he can hook a paw
around the door, he can pull towards himself.  I love the way he
pushes the door open, though.  He usually flings the door open, and
smacks it against the wall with a BANG!  He likes to make dramatic
entrances, especially into the bathroom. ;)

Laku can both push and pull, tho he learned to pull first and took a
while before learning to push. Tried to pull at doors opening outward,
poor baby. :)

Nico can neither push nor pull, yet, I hope. He uses his head,
literally. He pushes his head into the door crack and pries the door
open that way, whether the door opens inward or outward.

Oh that's so funny.  It's interesting how they can still get the door
open, even when they can't open it any "normal" way.  They are
determined critters!

My little Mimi's hobby was to knock things off of things, and send
them falling to the floor.  She loved doing this, and nver got tired
of it.  When the thing was reasonably small, she would push with her
paw.  But when the thing was big, she would get behind it and push it
with her head. ;)

That's very funny but at the same time scary. LOL! I have two who
like to do the dropping-stuff-from-high-places thing but I try to
make a barrier on high shelves with heavy stuff to block them off. If
they pull a Mimi and find a way to knock the barriers off, I'm in big
trouble!

Nanki Poo likes to enter the bathroom by flinging the door open and
hitting the wall with it.

Shmogg also likes making such a dramatic entrance when one is on the
procelain throne, and *particularly* when one is on the procelain throne
when company is visiting.

LOL!  I never need to close the door on the bathroom, but since the latch on
the downstairs door leading to the stairs has gone a bit iffy the cats can
now get upstairs, previously forbidden territory.
Normally they are very good about staying downstairs but sometimes bathroom
visits prove irresistible.
Brief visits by me to the bathroom seem of no interest at all.

Longer visits are *very* interesting.  Kitty will come up the stairs and sit
in front of the bathroom door.  She will stare for a while and then put her
head upside down and rub it on the carpet repeatedly.  She will never set
foot in the bathroom.

Boyfriend will come in, give a little chirp, and rub himself round my legs
until the job is done and then go down the stairs in front of me with his
tail right up triumphantly.
Awww.  Greater love hath no cat than this.

Vino is much better at pulling, but then it's only on our bedroom
door.  I wonder if he doesn't realize that all doors are the same and
he learns in on a case by case basis?  Very odd.  I'm surprised that
in Vancouver he figured out how to turn a latch 90 degrees and then
push the window out so he could get onto the balcony.  Could he be
getting dumber as he gets older?  He's not even 7 yet!!!

It's the principle of the thing. It's YOUR job to open that door and let him
out.

Yeah, but if he'd let himself out, he could have been back in my
bedroom bugging me in no time, rather than being stuck in the spare
room for 3 hours.  His loss!

I just looked at the photos of Vino. What an amazing looking creature! His
little stubby tail just cracks me up! You are such a lucky Meowmy!

Doncha love him neatly curled in the wastebasket, one little paw
jauntily hooked over the other?

That simply means he has to work harder at training you - you must be a slow
learner (snicker)

You might have the answer, there. Both Sammy and LB quickly figured
out how to use the pet door. Didn't mean they would use it willingly,
though. If I was in sight they would pretend ignorance and meow for me
to come open the door like a proper slave.

Note: They will only go out when supervised, so the pet door is only
for entering the apartment.

Oh, that's nothing. Nikki will stand on her back legs and frantically
scratch at the balcony door. And it is standing wide open! Mostly, I
consider Nikki to be quite a smart cat, but sometimes I have to
wonder... Maybe that's why she does it. Or because she knows how
annoying the sound of claws on glass is.
