Bandit Seems Better

CatNipped - 20 Mar 2005 17:24 GMT
Friday night she was in a lot of pain, purring *really* loudly and
trembling, and then crying in the middle of the night, even giving her the
pain pills every 6 hours.  So we picked up some stronger pain medication
yesterday morning, Buprenorphine HCI, which is given sublingually (in her
cheek pouch or under her tongue), and that let her rest easier yesterday and
last night.

This morning her wounds are looking clean and dry, no swelling, no redness.
Her appetite has picked up to the point that she was waiting at the child's
gate on my bedroom door when I was bringing her food down to her just now.
She was batting and biting at my hands and looking perkier than she has in
quite a while.

The vet called yesterday morning, last night, and again this morning to
check on her to make sure she was doing OK.  I know some of you may be
feeling cynical about this (it's hard not to) and say it's a case of CYA,
but I don't think so, I think she really cares and feels terrible about what
happened.  She certainly hasn't tried to deny culpability and has done
everything in her power to treat Bandit and get her well.  Anyway, I think
I'll give her another chance and not seek another vet just yet.

Poor Bandit :( Please keep us posted. I was wondering yesterday too. I feel
just awful for her and you. More purrs coming.

IMHO your Vet has a Cause of Action against the manufacturer of the
heating pad.  MLB

Lori, I'm glad to read some positive response on Bandit's part -- will
continue sending purrs for her and you.

Poor Bandit, and poor family. Lots of purrs and healing thoughts for you
all from North Carolina.

Sometimes, even the best of TEDs have something go wrong.  Stuff
happens.  If she were trying to make excuses, deny responsibility, or
was acting defensive, I'd be making an appointment with a different TED.
However, she seems to honestly have been taken in by the product in
her efforts to do her best for her patients.  Purrs and sympathy
thoughts for her as well as for Bandit and her grieving family.

Please give us daily reports on Sonya.  There are so many of us who have
been following her story.  Pretty please!   MLB

We're adopting her.  So she's the sixth member of the clowder.  Calvin
really needs a smaller cat family, so we're going to get him adopted by
someone who can help him with hs declawing issues.  (he thinks he's not
as good as the other cats because he can't do everything they can, like
climb)

As for Sonya, she got into an argument with Amanda this morning, and
nipped her hand.  I think it sounds encouraging.

Now I've lost count of the roll call over there. :-)

:-). You *have* explained to her that she definitely lives there now and she's perfectly free to unload those kittens any time she likes, haven't you? :-)

Not only did I explain to her that she's staying no matter what, but I
massaged her belly chanting "Push em out, Push em out...waaaaay out."
She gave me the first evil cat stare I've ever seen out of her.  At that
rate, she'll fit in right away.

As for the owners the roll call is as follows:  Tanada, QC, Merlin, Pine
Cone, Huey, and Sonya.  Calvin is going to be adopted to a family that
needs a cat without claws and who can massage his ego so that he no
longer feels like he's not good enough.

We all know Calvin is perfect (he is just so darn cute) but he doesn't
think he is.  Poor kid.  Another reason people shouldn't de-claw their cats.

Wow, that's so much more ... polite than the audience we usually get.  At the
YMCA, even.  Sheesh.

The worst, though, are the people who whistle.  It takes me a moment to figure
out if it was the ref whistle or not.

Personally, I'd also add Waffles, Nikki, and Tanada to the mix. I'll
even ship some dirty kitty litter with her.

I just started wondering, but aren't all those feisty ones you think of
shipping to the heat pad manufacturer female kitties?? Seems like girl

I have a friend who prefers male cats--he has 4, all males--since he
says males are bigger luv bugs and less bitchy than female cats.

Kumani isn't the least bit bitchy, but Tyche hates everyone save me,
DP, and the other felines that live here, and as for Nox...well...Nox
is civil as long as you treat her like the goddess who gives you your
sole reason for being that she truly is.  Unless she's cranky and
wants to bite.  But getting bitten is part of a lesser creature's
role.

And when we have guests, Smokey is always the first to be a lap fungus
on them.  Kumani's shy, Nox regards them disapprovingly, and Tyche
puffs up into a hissing horror.

He may be onto something.

I can't say I have a large sample, but of the five that I have had, the
females were and are more demanding.

I was going to offer Redunzel and Sarrasine to come along for the trip
and yes, they are female as well! Although Redunzel would probably try
to mother everyone and/or make friends with everyone and keep things
in order but Sarrasine can be a true b*tch if the mood takes her
(which alas it does sometimes.)

Yes, they can be b*tches.  IMHO boy kitties tend to be more laid back,
once neutered, than girls are.  ESTROGEN RULES.

I'm glad Bandit is better, Catnipped! =o) The blows to her feelings of
well-being and to her vanity have been pretty severe in the last two weeks.
Hopefully, she's on her way to full recovery, and you won't find any more
terrible surprises.  I too, think your vet is doing her best to make things
right, and I think she deserves the benefit of the doubt. She found out
about those heater thingies the hard way, and never wanted any animal in her
care to be harmed by them.
