I just got back from the vet. Bandit is going to need surgery in the
morning to remove the second burn. It is very yellow (from the eschar) and
not granulating like it should, so it has to come off before it too becomes
gangrenous.
I talked to the vet further about what caused the burn and she said they had
just started using heating "bags" that were recommended to them by NW Animal
Surgery (which is why she was burned both on her stomach and her back with
the burn on the back not as deep since she was laying on her stomach and the
bag was just resting on her back). They have now thrown all of those out
and are using only the water-filled thermal blankets.
I am still worried about her going under anesthesia for the third time in
three weeks, but it has to be done so she can recover fully.
Please send mega purrs for her to come through the surgery OK and recover
completely - my poor baby has been through *SO* much these last three weeks,
she deserves a break!

My gosh. Poor Bandit. My crew & I will purr like crazy. I'll definitely
ask what kind of heat pads my doc uses if mine ever need anesthesia
(Daisy's teeth might need it again some day).

We'll send HUUGE purrs and prayers. I'm certain she will handle it like a
champ. I hope the vet also presents this to the place that recommended them
and the company that makes them. I know I will be certain to ask what is
used if any of my babies have to undergo surgery.

Many, many purrs.
If you have a chance, ask the vet if the bags are an FDA-approved
medical device. If they are, they should file an adverse incident
report. That's the only way the FDA, short of epidemics and the likes,
knows about product safety problems.

I third this recommendation. They should be providing feedback to the
source, so they know what happens to the animals and possibly work on the
bags or put warnings on them.

Lots of strong healthy purrs for Bandit for her next surgery. She's a
healthy loved kitty supported by the purrs of rpca and she'll do just fine.
I'll be thinking of her tomorrow.
Otis had a mysterious accident when he was younger that required all kinds
of skin grafts and terrible things. He had three general anaesthetics in
three days and I was worried sick about him. He was fine too. I took the
day off after the third time because he was feeling pretty wobbly. The CEO
of the company didn't understand completely - it was the same day as a
crucial securities filing we were doing. I managed it all from home but he
was not totally impressed by my absence. So, I know also about the work
issues. I wish you luck on all fronts.

Yes, she is paying for all treatment and all medicines. I thought she was
going to pay for the emergency vet also, but she hasn't - but that's OK, I
would have spent ten times as much for my poor hurt baby!

Purrs steadily coming over for Bandit. I know your concern. Frank had to
be sedated three times in a short period of time last autumn, when he
had his trouble with a tooth. He was almost 17 then, and the vets had
said his BUN was elevated and sedation was always a risk. But that tooth
had to be fixed. Well, he's still with me, and his own perky self. We're
purring and meatloaf meditating that Bandit does just as well as he did.
