First, Tennessee gets a cold. Has to take Amoxicillin drops 2x daily. We
isolated him (against his wishes) in the bathroom, with food, water & his
own private litterbox. He complained the whole time he was in there,
especially when it was time for the meds as he hates them. Amoxicillin is
the same stuff that Mimi had to take when she had her upset tummy in
December (she's fine now, and she thanks you for the purrs) as a matter of
fact, we still had some of hers in the fridge & it's the same lot #.
Tennessee is now over his cold and released from his prison cell. He
grumpily thanks everyone for their purrs.
HOWEVER
Ping, being the clown that he is, *WOULD NOT* stay away from the bathroom
door during his waking hours. Always reaching under the door, and sticking
his nose there. Tennessee, for the most part, either ignored him or hissed
at him. Possibly even sneezed at him...
And now Ping has Tennessee's cold :(
I have put a call in to TED to see if Ping should be on Tennessee's meds or
not. VT wasn't sure as Ping is 10 years younger than Tennessee, and might
be able to fight it off himself. TED wasn't in yet when I called, and they
would call (or email) me back later.
And to add insult to injury, we had been feeding Tennessee the el-cheapo
canned food (the kind that most cats like, but isn't all that good for
them), just to get him to eat something. Ping cried his heart out whenever
we opened a can. So on Saturday, we relented and gave Ping about 1/2 a can.
Big mistake. He hasn't had gooshy food for a couple of months, so now he
has the runs - or as we called them, the Hershey-squirts. Unfortunately, it
was NOT confined to the bathroom, as it started before his cold. Now we
have stinky-squishy cat poo in places it shouldn't be. Living room carpet.
Dining room carpet. A few spots on the quilt (which we discovered right
before we went to bed. DH wanted to change *all* the bedclothes, but since
it was only on the quilt, I vetoed him), and the bedroom floor (thankfully,
hardwood). He even got a few splashes on Weeble's fuzzy mitten (the one I
don for his bouts of WrestleMania on the Tower Of Doom). We exchanged Ping
for Tennessee in the prison cell, and this morning, there was a whole mess
more of poo all over the bathroom (sink, edge of the tub, some on the
floor). Much easier to clean than carpet.
Ping has a cold, and needs to eat. Ping can't eat gooshy food as it goes
right through him. Without his sense of smell, dry isn't very attractive to
him.
<sigh>
At least, while writing this message, I got the OK from TED to give
Tennessee's meds to Ping.
I am off to find a nice sturdy brick wall against which to bang my head (be
afraid for the wall, people, as my head is fairly hard)...

Major purrs. WHo said kids were easy? Of course, the clamavox might not
help the runs situation. Can you mix some canned pumpkin in with food and
maybe get a bit of yogurt down him? Might help firm that up.

Canned food does that to Moxie, too. :( So poor Daisy never gets canned
food, which she loves.

Try some fresh cooked fish or chicken. It's delicate on the stomach, and
really stinky so stimulates the appetite.
Purrs he's better soon :o)

Awwww, poor Ping (and Meowmie). I can sympathize with the cleaning job
you have - my Nikita (RB) had IBD with diarrhea, and I had to clean up
puddles all over the house for years. It is definitely a test of
Meowmiehood ;-) Hopefully Ping with get it out of his system soon,
and sending purrs that you're able to get plenty of food and meds into
him so he gets better soon.

Ask your vet about powdering his gooshyfood with (flavorless) Metamucil.
I've been told by vets that it works just as well for our furry masters as
for us.

Purrs on the way for the whole family's health and (in your case,
mental) well-being.

ACK!! One wall pillow and a gallon of Nature's miracle, and purrs that the
kitty illness cycle will soon be broken. Especially the part that is nasty
and smelly to clean up.
