You know, I'm sitting here grading papers and I just find it bizarre when I
run across a student who talks about the mosques and architecture around
them. Often in class, we have students actively stationed in Iraq and I just
have to marvel that technology allows them to take a class from me while
also talking about the war around them. I just had to take a moment and
express just this wierd bizarre feeling of displacement and amazement about
this phenomenon.

What do you teach, Karen?  I only recently became aware that you are a
teacher.  Are your classes totally online?

Yes. I am an adjunct professor online for a University. I teach integrated
arts. My day job is just a normal CSR.

The world is a much, much smaller place than it was even
twenty years ago!  I've been waiting eagerly for an DVD to
be released.  It came out in Europe last Monday, but won't
be released in the U.S. until April 12th, so since my DVD
player will accept both PAL and NTSC formats, I ordered it
on the web from MDT Classics in England.  It arrived in my
California mailbox last Friday!  (That's less than a week in
transit - I don't always get mail orders that fast from
companies in the U.S.!)

I buy DVDs from all over the world, often different films are released
on DVD in one region before their theatrical release in another. I live
in the UK and have had discs from Hong Kong and Australia only take two
days to reach me.

Yep-  I teach anthropology, and in my online classes I've had students
who are stationed overseas with the military as well as a couple who
live overseas in a civilian capacity.  Pretty cool when you're
discussing a culture area and have someone who happens to live there
who can offer first hand perspective.
