We have a four day weekend this week, so on Friday, we bundled up the
crew and went to Ashboro to see the North Carolina Zoo.  Not only was
the zoo on our some day list, but we needed to detox from being cooped
up in Fayetteville all the time.  Ok, we have itchy feet, what can I
say, it's the truth.

We got there, and there were over 600 school kids touring the zoo at the
same time we were.  Not bad, most were well behaved, just hyper-kenetic,
though there were some high school kids that made me glad that my kids
have always been well behaved in public.

Anyway, we saw the cougars (I never knew how HUGE cougars are, and I'm
from cougar country), bobcats, ocelots, and female lions (daddy was in
hiding).  We were charmed with the polar bears and sea lions.  The
Australia area was mostly closed due to weather (too cold) but we saw
wallabies, red kangaroos (yes they do lack a certain sanity when you
look into their eyes), kookaburras (awesome) and various other visitors.

I know that giraffes aren't playing on all cylinders, but they are so
majestic looking at a safe distance.  And the tropical bird house was
impressive.

We're rather spoiled by the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, but this was
not a bad attempt to protect and preserve the species.  Rob complained
because most of the exhibits had only two of everything, but that could
be a combination of newness and budget constraints.  Also, at this time
of year, most animals are not at their best.

We tried Quiznos subs for dinner and found out that we like them very
much.  However, we got home and Sonya had not taken advantage of the
solitude to produce kittens.  Bummer.

Anyway, we had a good day out.  Now if I could get the soreness out of
the muscles in my calves....

It sounds like a wonderful trip.  Re: Sonya.  I hope she is not holding
out for an April 1st surprise.  "April Fool -- I'm not really pregnant at
all!"  Purrs for Sonya anyway -- it is now a habit.   MLB
