Aww, she's so pretty. You're really good at taking pictures of black
cats. You never get the 'black blob' kind. I suppose it's because you
use natural lighting? Very nice pics.

Yeah, but they still aren't like Weeble pics. Of course, it isn't a Canon
Rebel either. Just a Canon A60. I still have to figure out how to get
clearer pics. If I turn off the flash, the auto focus seems to go too.

With my camera (Canon S45), when I turn off the flash in a situation
where it would otherwise be used, autofocus is fine, but the exposure
time increases due to lower light, which sometimes leads to pictures
being blurred by my not-so-steady camera hand.  Any chance that's
what's getting you when you turn off the flash?

That could be. Unless I go to macro mode I get just a little blur. Hmmm. How
to get around this? Definitely with the black cats, I need to get them in
natural lighting. But also, is there a way to choose your focal point? I've
noticed the focus box, but it is picking an object I don't want.

Mine does that, too--AiAF (artifical "intelligence" auto-focus?)--and
I hate it.  The S45 has a little D-pad on the back (button pad with
left/right/up/down arrows), and if I push that straight in (no
direction), I can then press any direction to toggle between that AiAF
nonsense (indicated on the S45 by a large framing square) and a
single, small auto-focus square in the center of the frame.  Every
time I turn the camera on, it's in AiAF mode by default, too, and I
always forget about it, and it always screws me if there's anything in
the shot less than 3 or 4 feet away.

Anyway, I don't know if your A60 has anything comparable, but I hope
that helps you out some.

Hey, thanks. Gives me something to look for. Hmm. I do have the four
buttons, kind of like a dpad, but it doesn't do anything to the box. I will
have to google and see if there is an answer out there. Gets me thinking in
a new direction though!

Shoot, I was going to say something to this, too.  Again, I'm not too
familiar with the A60, but if you have the little wheel or some other
mode selector that lets you pick a mode that allows the exposure time
to be set manually, you might be able to reduce it a little.  Of
course, that could leave you with darker pictures (depending on
available light), but if you're handy with an image editor, you might
be able to do some gamma correction or contrast/brightness adjustment
after you download the pictures from the camera.  I find I have to do
that anyway with most pictures I need the flash for.

Yeah, I think it would....if I knew what the heck I was doing. I'll have to
experiment some more. Thanks again for the advice.

You can use a tripod or else set the camera on something solid.  That
way the camera doesn't jiggle during the longer exposure.  If you have
a *really* long exposure time, then the best thing is to not even
press the button yourself, but set it up on the self timer while the
camera is sitting there or on a tripod.  That way you get the
steadiest pictures and no jiggling blurs.  However, your subject has
to be sitting very still, so this doesn't work for action shots.

heh. I was going to say, I'm lucky to get there when they are being cute in
time to click, let alone set the camer up on something!

Such a pretty girl!  Persia likes to sleep with her leg extended, too.
Sometimes I think she's imitating me - I stretch way out when I sleep :)

Pearl has arthritis in that leg, so it isn't very flexible. I think it feels
good when she can stretch it out like that.

Both Sugar and Pearl are so beautiful. Unfortunately, you didn't put a
luxury warning on this post and now Selena is demanding a blanket on her
cat tree ;)

ROFL. They love it. They will use it without, but I have bunches of those
Woolrich berber throws, so I just fold them up and put them on the different
beds. They seem to NEED to sit/sleep on berber. Pearl won't lay on the couch
unless there is a berbre throw folded up for her to sit on.

My grandmother would roll over in her grave if she knew first my dog and now
my cat insist on sleeping on her knitted afghans!  I have one in the closet
which is a no-no - packed in plastic.  All white, like a wedding dress.  The
only white one she ever made.

Aw, she's *lovely*!   I like black cats.
Kitty FC's first boyfriend was all black, this was when she still lived
outside and I would find them meatloafing in the toolshed together quite
often, but black boy always ran off when he saw me.
The friendship went on for quite a while, maybe all one summer or maybe
more.  Where Kitty was, black boy would be and vice versa.  I don't know
what he did, but he must have blotted his copybook. KFC was walking up the
path and BB was just behind her when she suddenly spun round and really
boxed his ears.  Then she turned to continue her walk and he followed again.
When she looked back and saw he was still there, she really lost her temper,
leapt on him and knocked him off his feet, swearing all the while.
Poor lad ran away and they haven't been friends since :-(   I still see him
sometimes, he isn't a stray and looks well-cared for.
There is another all black cat that lives two doors away, this one has a
collar and hates gentle Boyfriend.  He is known as "the enemy."
He's a really pushy cat.

Heh. SOunds like Pearl in a way. Lately, she does NOT like it if I stay up
past midnight. SHe comes up on the couch and GLARES at me and will even
gently bite me until I go to bed. It's annoying but cute too.

I've not decided yet about when my cats tell me what to do.  Part of me
wants to indulge them because I love them, and part of me says "Hey, what's
going on here?"
This is what I've decided as an interim measure.
1. You will stay downstairs in your beds at night and have the option of the
out available always for toilet duties or rat patrol.
2.  You will not come upstairs and miaow loudly under my bedroom door at 7
a.m. on a Wednesday, Saturday, or Sunday.  You must wait until 9.
3.  Only two meal options will be provided, otherwise you starve.
4. Boyfriend has to stop his new habit of thinking I need him winding round
my legs in order to perform on the throne early in the morning.
5.  Boyfriend has to stop opening the door from the lounge to the stairs in
order that he can zoom up the staircase and watch me in the bathroom any
time I go there.
6.  Boyfriend needs to stop clawing my sleeve to say he wants something
immediately, right now, like some crunchies which I am cutting him down on.
7.  Kitty laughs.  She say she tell him to be "more crafty dan dat"

Well, these two seem a bit harsh. I mean, that is a cats faaaavorite thing
to do. Especially boys. Well, Grant never did the "bolting" thing, but Amigo
did. It was his favorite game to bolt past me and try to decide which room I
would go into.

Of course, good luck in getting any of those habits under control :)
