Hopitus - 12 Mar 2005 00:18 GMT It's Us! Hopitus & the Evil 3 (sadly, now only the Deadly Duo; Sylvie went to RB 2/15 @ age 12, peacefully, not suffering) are now residing for good in our new digs; Duo - Maluce & Rowdy - have grown "winter fur" here in CO, even though (!) they are indoor dictators and never set foot outside. Hopitus, born & raised in Miami, had not slightest idea of how to deal with snow, ice, hail, sleet, and "black ice" (bought requisite tools for dealing with these cold-weather phenomenas, but ignorant of which to use and how; new neighbors, CO natives all, found great hilarity in my efforts therewith. Cats doing much better than their slave hoomin adapting to MileHigh surroundings and strange happenings (water takes forever to boil and when it does finally, LEAPS, not pours, from kettle spout; no multitude of insects here, a great improvement from our former residence area; traffic much lighter and more good-natured fhan south Fla.crowded highways; when we first landed here I was apalled seeing cats and dogs high-stepping in snowbanks ("What! Don't their little paws hurt?" said Hopitus, which sent the natives here - again - into laughter convulsions). I missed you all @ r.p.c.a. during computer hiatus with only the short, furry slavemasters but now we're up and surfing again. Hope sincerely you have all been treated kindly by Fate, not to mention Bastet.

Sadly in our family, Grant passed away Feb. 24 so it is now just us girls, Pearl, Sugar and me. I'm so happy you are back online though. I envy you the snow. We've had hardly any here in Nebraska this year and it is disgusting.

Well, the MileHigh locals bemoan our "lack" of big snow locally as well, (winter sports is IT here: the moneymaker, as beaches are (snicker) scarce.....but I notice folks here all drive up to your state to buy their sporting goods.......not to mention enjoying steaks in Omaha.....

Oscar and I also get shocked when we touch; so do DH and I, for that matter! The shocks go away during the summer, though; it's really just a winter thing.
The dry air has both good and bad aspects. I would suggest finding some good, unscented moisturizer. Don't be surprised if your nose bleeds, or you at least find red boogers when you blow your nose. On the plus side, I am willing to go outside during the heat of the day in the summer, whereas in Virginia it felt like you were stepping into a sauna; unbearable for any amount of time.
What activities are you pursuing? Surely you've noted by now that you should pick at least three of the following to do: skiing (alpine, cross-country or tele), snowboarding, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, road biking, snowshowing, rock climbing, ice climbing, roller blading, ice hockey ... this is a very active region. You'll definitely notice it in the summer, if you haven't yet.

Welcome back! It's been too long. Seems like you were one of those Sherry, Pam S, and I were talking about duing the Big Shirk Family Adventure/Journey last summer - people who had dropped out of the group and we wondered, but of course I could be remembering wrong.
Sorry to hear about Sylvie leaving for the Rainbow Bridge, but glad the rest of the family made the trip and adjustment to the new home.

C. Burel - 21 Mar 2005 19:00 GMT Hi Hopitus -- very nice to see you again and hear about your kitties, although I'm sorry to learn of Sylvie's passing. Waving north from here in Albuquerque to your new home! Christine and Omar, Oreo, Midnight, Robin & Tucker
Hopitus - 24 Mar 2005 02:21 GMT Thanks, Christine & kitties (I see you've gained a few more) for the welcome back.....I was in your town years ago and was impressed by the unusual physical setup of Albuquerque.....saw it all both overnight & daytime as we camped overnight @ an overlook, with a lotta truckers & tourists, giving us a sweeping view of that looming mountain, cable car, and the spreadout city below. What a pretty place! Now that we're here, maybe some day we'll return there w/relatives or friends here who drive down once in awhile to take in the mystical :Santa Fe (I always thought A. looked like a lot more fun.....).

Hopitus - 15 Mar 2005 04:34 GMT Hee hee, thank you for your welcome; Oscar is gorgeous and I don't blame you for spoiling him! I'm not as young as you and the outdoor activities you mention would be suicide, pretty much, for a S.Fla.native who sends the CO neighbors into screaming laugh fits using my snow/sleet/ice/frost removal implements on my vehicle this winter (I never know which thing to use on what cursed trial Nature will send from winter sky). Maybe rollerblading or hiking (not in mountains) when it gets warmer.......pray you don't meet me on the road somewhere locally, literally; am a menace driving on ice.

There are some amazingly fit people around here of all ages. Not that I'm saying you have to go out and do stuff, but you may find that you want to. The dry air that's such a pain in the winter is a true blessing in the summer.
