Leaving a loaded gun on the kitchen counter was pretty damn
stupid...this is why MORONS and GUNS don't mix.

My dad has a gun because he lives in a somewhat remote area and has
had to use it against rabid wildlife, attacking coy-dogs, and to
euthanize a cattlebeast (it would have been more cruel to make the cow
suffer for hours upon hours until a vet could arrive).  He keeps the
bullets in a safe, and the gun with triggerlocks on it that only he
can open.  Needless to say he has never had any problems with it.

I myself can operate the C-7 assault rifle, but when the day is
through, the weapon goes back in the armoury.

I can only imagine Nocturne with 5 magazines and full automatic fire
capability....

I am always so amazed when you USA folks talk about having guns in your
house.  I guess you think you need them.  Your criminals are armed because
your police are.
Not so here, unless in exceptional circumstances.
I would not know how to fire a gun if I had one (which I don't) neither do I
need one.

Not everyone in the US owns a gun.  My MIL considers the word "gun" to be
worse than any four-letter word you could say.  Please remember that the US is
home to a wide variety of opinions and lifestyles.  I get the feeling from
some of your posts about the USA that you have a mental image of the US that
bears no resemblance to my day-to-day experiences.

No. The police are armed because the criminals are armed. NOt the
other way around. But I won't get started on this topic.

I'm Canadian and grew up in an isolated area.  My family had guns as
defence against rabid or savage wild animals.  When I was 14 I was
attacked by a pack of feral dogs on our back property.  My father has
also had to use his gun to put to sleep a cattlebeast with severe
injuries.  Our neighbours hunt deer as a means of obtaining meat for
their family.

I myself learned to handle weapons in the military, including full
automatic assault rifles.  It is easy to handle weapons safely.  That
is why it boggles my mind when people are stupid with them.
