Just got to thinking about what I like about hoolikittens

The thread about how much work kittens/cats are got me thinking. I
was just chasing kittens off of the kitchen counters, and the top of
the refrigerator, and cleaning up the bits of dry food strewn across
the kitchen floor. This is the time of the night when they really
live up to their hoolikitten reputation. lol Watching them go nuts
over something so simple as the little rivit thingie that covers the
hinge bolt on the refrigerator door, like it is a bug or something
alive. Or how they can go absolutely nuts just looking at the carpet.
As if there must be something alive on it and causing them (Scarlett
mostly) to do this weird dance. Its almost as if every little thing
moves in some way to them.

We had one kitten that was totally enamored of motes of dust floating in
sunlight.

Speaking of cats and counters and training cats.  Jake was supposed to be
Charlie's cat.  His retirement present and his responsibility.  (I've told
this one here before)  We got Jake in the fall and his house training was
going nicely.  He is a smart Siamese - usually and appeared to be quite
trainable.  Now I do income taxes for a living and used to work very long
hours from January to April.  When I got busy in January, Jake had mastered
playing nicely.  No biting hard, claws in for humans.  Allow handling, etc.
And Charlie bought a squirt gun and was teaching him to stay off the
counters.

When I finally got to spend some time at home in April, Charlie is teaching
my how to adjust the water dribbling from the kitchen sink faucet just right
so Jake can drink from it.

Sure you can teach a cat anything it wants to learn.

The world is full of greeblings. =o) Nina and Francesca have been bouncing
around, attacking things like newspapers and paper towels and bits of wadded
up foil all weekend.  I think it was because of the return of warm weather.
Both of them are feeling spring feverish. <G>

My favourite memory of HRFL Tiger as a itty bitty kitten was when he
discoved my glass of milk. He stuck his nose in it promptly sneezed and
got covered in spattered milk. The look of suprise on his face was
priceless.

I love little kitty sneezes! They always look so surprised by it. :)

When I was a child, we had a cat whom we gave milk every day for the
first couple of years of his life.  He eventually became
lactose-intolerant, and we had to switch him over to water instead.
On the first occasion that his bowl contained water, he looked into
it, didn't see any milk, stuck his face down into it (into the water),
and sniffed to see if he could smell any milk.  He came up sneezing,
and then gave my mother a dirty look as if blaming her for the loss of
dignity.  From that point on, before drinking from his bowl, he would
tap it a couple of times with his foot, apparently to make ripples so
that he could see where the water level was.

All of mine do that, every time they drink. It's so cute. The dog thinks
they are nuts of course. Having said that, they are fuss aboyt their
water... They won't use the same water bowl as the dog (I have to have a
big one upstairs for them) and they won't drink out of anything other
than a big clay drinking bowl. <sigh>

Gotcha.  What I love is how absolutely fascinating every minute of
their lives is (to them).  They *are* like babies in that way.  Things
you would never think of, and take for granted, are absolutely
riveting to them.  When Stinky was a hoolikitten, he would jump on the
bathroom sink every morning to watch me--- no, *help* me--  do my
morning routine-- wash face, brush teeth, etc. etc-- in fact, see
Catnipped's "Putting Makeup With Mommy" to see how that went. ;)  THe
thing that was most hysterical was how excited he got when I gargled
with mouthwash.  He would stand on his hind legs and put his paws on
my chin, and stick his face in my face with this really *concerned*
expression.  It was all I could do not to spit mouthwash everywhere.

Prolly the minty freshness. :) Scarlett is my little morning
helper. She's all in the sink when I need it.
