Yeah, this needs the same kind of publicity that Pale Male got.

A start would be an on-line petition, which would spread through the
international community like wildfire. Wisconsin political leaders need
to know that they have world condemnation and that their votes will be
affected if something so barbaric is passed.
I'll bet odds on that the A$$hole proposing the bill is a cat hater
looking for a legal reason to shoot peoples pets for kicks.

That's absolutely repugnant!
May it get voted down in a landslide. There are FAR better ways to get a
handle on the cat population than to have hunters shooting them.
There's NO way to tell if a particular cat is someone's family pet that
has accidentally gotten out, if it's a pet that is an indoor/outdoor (or
just outdoor) cat, or if it's truly feral.
And regardless of which description fits it, just shooting cats is no
solution at all.
Whoever dreamed up this stupid idea, it would serve them right if they
were vilified by the pet-owning population of Wisconsin. I agree with
Helen, it probably is the brainchild of some cat-hating [expletive] who's
looking for excuses to shoot at cats.
DOWN with this proposal! I don't live in Wisconsin, but if non-residents
are welcome to offer an opinion, I'll gladly provide a vehement NO. Just
tell me whom to write, email, etc.

I've noticed a trend lately about poor treatment of animals and fire
fighters. Wasn't it just a month or two ago a fire fighter bit the head off
a pet bird while at a party? I'm in no way condemning the entire profession
(I have a pet-loving cousin who is a fire fighter). But so many people seem
to go into this because it's a "macho" job. And with "macho" often comes
that "I'm better than everyone else" attitude.

I've also seen firefighters tenderly treating animals they rescued from
a fire. My first wife's cat Theo (RB) was pulled out of an apartment
fire, and immediately had his mouth cleared and was put on oxygen. He
wouldn't have made it to an estimated well-over-20-years had this not
been done.

I said that the proposal to shoot cats in Wisconsin was "all over the
Internet" therefore known to the world. I didn't say anything about where I
heard it, nor did I say anything nasty or threatening to him. I said I was
phoning from the UK, thought it would be a very good idea to reconsider and
wondered what the BBC might think about it if they got to know.
I haven't done anything about informing the BBC yet. You Americans please
keep me posted on what's happening about this. I'm hoping the outrage he
seems to have attracted might be enough, but I am very prepared to take it
further if not.
Imagine! If anyone shot my cats I wouldn't be responsible for my actions if
I found who'd done it.
I can only know what Mark Smith does after all this outcry if you lot tell
me. Please do.
Ah, this has got me fired up and it takes a lot to do that!

Well, apparently the guy has even received some death threats! So, things
are looking up ;) I say that in the way that I mean there is a large
reaction to it.
