Steve Touchstone - 06 Mar 2005 10:09 GMT Well, I'm woefully behind in the group - yet again, seems like a regular thing now a days. So, I'm sending out blanket purrs for everyone in need, and thought I'd fill you in on the goings on here in Lawton, Oklahoma, USA.
The most important thing - fur/feathered masters are all doing fine. Tiger (the cockatiel) seems to have adapted to no longer having Sunny ruling the cage. I've pretty much decided not to get another bird to keep her company, afterall I got Tiger as company for Sunny and they never really got along very well.
The furry ones are doing fine. I recently picked up a cheapy cat tree at WalMart, and it's a big hit with Sammy. I have it set up next to the chair in the bedroom where I sit down to put on shoes, and Sammy has taken to bopping my head when I sit down. Little Bit (Miss I Hate/Distrust Anything New) is slowly warming up to it. At first she didn't want anything to do with it, but she's started jumping up onto the lowest platform to get a treat when I put one there. The other night she made it all the way up to the top platform, but then couldn't figure out how to get down and meowed until I rescued her.
There's also a development on the neighborhood cat front. As I've mentioned several times before, I put out food for all the neighborhood kitties (much to the girl's disgust - they don't particularly like other cats visiting THEIR patio). For the past couple months, Spotty, a Rocky lookalike has started coming to visit. I figure she must be one his decendents from before I managed to catch and neuter him. Not sure where she lives, but she's become a regular here. She's a real sweety, very vocal, and greets me when I get home from a hard night of pizza delivery. Also been known to come to the bedroom window and call for breakfast if I don't get up and have food ready for her when she comes to eat. She's also developing quite a bulge - I expect she'll be having kittens before long.
Well, back to trying to catch up - only a couple thousand new messages to read ;-)

Marina - 06 Mar 2005 15:09 GMT > Well, back to trying to catch up - only a couple thousand new messages > to read ;-) Nice to hear from you, Steve. I'm sadly behind on catching up, too. There's been a lot of traffic lately. Glad to hear you and the cats are doing so well. Might Spotty be wanting to move inside and maybe have her babies in your closet? Bit of deja vu there, right? ;o) LOL about Sammy bopping you. Heh.

Unfortunately, in a small two room apartment I really don't have a room I can shut off to integrate her into the family. Both Sam and LB rush up to the glass door and try to scare her off the patio when they see her at the food bowl. Sammy once darted out when I came inside after putting out food and chased Spotty over the fence. My own fault for not being more careful. Ever try to find a mostly black tuxedo cat at 3 in the morning? I couldn't find Sam with the small flashlight I keep inside, so had to go out to the truck for my more powerful one. Finally found her sitting at the base of the fence in the corner of the yard, but she had me going for awhile.

============================================= I wonder if its the same catree I bought at Walmart?
Re outside cat: I hope she has a home.

Wouldn't be surprised, since our Oklahoma WalMarts have the same stuff I see when I visit California. This one is a cheap one - IIRC $34.95
BTW, LB continues to warm up to it. The second platform is now familiar territory for her - though I haven't seen her back on the top platform since that one time when she got up there and cried for me to come rescue her - crazy cat ;-)
>Re outside cat: I hope she has a home. I'm pretty sure she does. She's not wild, by any means. she was skittish when we first met, but stopped running away within a few days. Still doesn't like to be touched, goes belly to the ground to avoid my touch, but doesn't run away. I wonder how good a home it is, though, where an obviously pregnant cat is in the OUT in all kinds of weather, seemingly 24/7. The other thing I notice about her is that she guards the food bowl, sort of like Rocky used to. The difference is that she tries to chase everyone else away (even when she's not hungry), while Rocky just watched to see who was coming to eat. I keep meaning to visit around the neighborhood to see if someone claims her, but never seem to find a good time with these crazy hours I'm working.

You can enter her in the "who will pop first" pool along with Pam's Sonya!

Thanks for the update of the T. clan and purrs for the mama-to-be.
