My lovebird's vet started up a web site (don't ask me the URL, I haven't a
clue!) I got email from the vet saying they were giving away prizes for
testimonials. Well heck, since he's the only avian vet in the area and
Persia's vet recommended him... I wrote some nice remarks. I like the way
he handles Peaches. And he gave me samples of different foods and treats
for her to try and when I board her they give her slices of apples and fresh
greens just like I do at home. So I emailed my testimonial. He
(personally) called me yesterday. I won a $10 gift certificate to Best Buy.
Hmmmm, could have been to PetCo, but what the heck. I *never* win anything
so I'm tickled pink.

You have birds? He gave me some Avi Cakes and some Nutri-berries. And a
tiny pouch of Harrison's pellets. Peaches loves them, but the Harrison's is
a tad too expensive so I just get her a pellet mix and make sure she has
plenty of fresh fruit, carrots and green leafy veggies like kale. You
should see this bird go after fruit, greens and carrot sticks :) She's a
sweet little parrot. And no, Persia does not bother her. In fact, I often
find Persia meatloafing next to the cage. But no, I don't let the bird out
of the cage when Persia is around... I'm not *that* stupid!

We do let Ava out when someone's able to keep an eye on the kids.
Helps that Felix is middle-aged and lazy :-).
DH reports an interesting event a few days ago. Seems the bird was out
and around and landed on the arm of the sofa. The same soft arm on
which Felix was meatloafing. He just turned, sniffed her, rubbed his
head against her, and settled back down, and the bird stayed with him
for several minutes (he got a picture).

I could e-mail it or get DH to put it in Web space. Which would you
prefer? :-)

Congratulations! Winning something, anything, is always nice. I don't
win anything too often either, but I still keep sending in the
"applications" - the entry coupons that come with the mail, just in
case... :)

Well done, Jill. I have only ever won one thing. It was in a raffle and it
was the cake I'd made myself and donated.

The LunaChix are a charity organization, sponsored by Clif Bar, that promotes
breast cancer awareness and also organizes free women's mountain biking
clinics. At the end of the five-clinic series there was a raffle, and I bought
15 one-dollar tickets.
... I won the grand prize, a women's-specific down sleeping bag worth several
hundred dollars. I was jumping all over the place and really excited ...
until I brought it home. "Is it down?" asked DH. With a sinking heart, I
remembered that he's extremely allergic to feathers. Can't even sleep in the
same room with them.
I ended up giving away the bag to a pro female mountain biker who lives near
us. She and her husband have helped both DH and me on several occasions, and
I knew she could use the bag for the many times when she had to sleep in her
vehicle overnight at a race. So I guess it's all good. But I'm still kinda
sad =/
