My brother's Springer Spaniel Maggie has been battling a respiratory
infection for about 3 weeks now. As if that and her recent seizures
weren't enough, she fell off the seat of Pat's truck a couple days ago
and looked to be in pain. So Pat took her in to the vet to followup on
her URI and find out what's hurting her since the fall.

THe vet did a full set of x-rays and found some interesting things.
Namely that a couple of her vertebra (sp?) were fractured in the past
and are now heavily calcified.  Based on her x-rays. seizure history,
and other exams he's done in the past he theorizes that someone in the
past attacked Maggie with a baseball bat, breaking her back then hitting
her in the head and leaving her for dead.

We do know that she ended up in the pound in Los Cruces, NM and that she
was adopted from the pound by a Springer rescue volunteer in Phoenix.
Pat then adopted Maggie from the lady in Phoenix. Whoever did the damage
to Maggie in Las Cruces had best hope that neither Pat nor I ever learn
their identity.

Anyway, the bottom line is that she is getting new meds for her
infection, her current meds seem to be keeping her seizures under
control, and she's getting new meds to help her back feel better.

Poor Maggie!  Whoever did that to her deserves the same treatment.  I hope
you don't find out who it was too.  Such scum isn't worth going to jail for.

Thank God that Maggie's got a OneTrueHome NOW, with people and an extended
family who love her! She deserves at LEAST that much, after what she's
been through.

As for the guilty party: if they never are caught and punished for what
they did to Maggie, then may they be caught and punished for something
ELSE that they do. Because, unfortunately, a person who's capable of
viciously attacking an innocent animal like this is probably NOT going to
be living a crime-free, abuse-free life.

I'll never understand how people who do these things can live with
themselves.

Actually, my thinking was that if the responsible party was ever
identified and either Pat or I heard about it, they would have to deal
with a couple of truly hissed off big guys dishing out a personal brand
of justice. I doubt they would have to worry about the judicial system.

Poor Maggie! Like everyone else, I'm glad her early bad experiences are
over, and that she has a loving responsible owner now.  It's so hard to
think of animals being harmed by the people they trusted.  Dogs are so
loyal!

Many purrs coming for Maggie. Poor girl, she's had a rough life. I'm so
glad she is with your brother now and properly looked after and loved.

Poor Maggie, purrs that she feels a lot better soon. It never fails to
amaze me that an animal so badly treated by one person can still be
trusting and loving to others.

Oh god, that poor doggie.  I hope all the meds work well and she'll
be pain-free from now on.  She's sure had it rough.  Thank goodness
she found a loving, caring home - you guys are great!!

(snipped)

We are sending out feel-better purrs for Maggie, and are meditating on
the thought that perhaps even now the one who hurt her is getting what
he deserves.
