Betty and I rub against each other so much that by now, we probably
have identical scents. :)  Betty's fur smells "warm", a light, fuzzy,
almost musty scent evocative of blankets and fuzzy fabrics.
Sometimes, she smells a bit spicy, especially after she's licked
herself.

The scent glands on the sides of her head that she uses to mark me are
different.  They have a distinctive scent that's strongly of cocoa,
with a hint of roasted nuts and coconut.  It's like she's carrying
around a stash of Almond Joy chocolate bars.

LOL :)  She's the carnivorous predator, and I'm the omnivore, so she
says that I'm not allowed to eat her since she's higher in the food
chain than I am.  But she does get nibbled and sniffed a lot. :)

LOL!  That would set of a craving!  I rarely eat sweets but I adore Almond
Joy bars!  I swear, cats have pockets.  Persia keeps a calendar (or a teensy
tiny PDA) in hers so she knows what day to wake me extra early for her
gooshy food.  I've never noticed her smelling like anything in particular,
though.  Just a fresh clean scent.  Maybe it *is* like laundry.  Hmmmm.

One of my great memories from childhood was when my father came home
from work, he would often have an Almond Joy or Mounds Bar in his coat
pocket.  He would eat half and give half to me. ;)

That's a sweet memory.  How nice.  He must have looked forward to your

I like to pick up Oscar and breathe deeply with my face in her fur, when
she'll let me.  She smells comforting, like maybe an old quilt.  It's hard to
think of a similar smell, but I like it.

I had no idea there were other cat sniffers out there. Is this group

One morning as I awoke from sleep, I realized that it was time to wash
the pillows.  They really, really, REALLY smelled like cat.

Then I realized that Nocturne was on my face.

Mischief - 03 Mar 2005 20:38 GMT
Right now since Mischief is rubbing herself all over my stinky swim
towel that's lying on the floor, my roommate complains when she comes
to cuddle with her that she STINKS!!

I haven't noticed it too badly.  I know the towel stinks, but she's not
that bad.

But maybe it's because I try not to aggravate my allergies by rubbing
my face in cat fur.  :)

I liked to smell them when they came in from outside. We used to say "you
smell like outdoors".

That reminds me of how Janice used to love the smell of the outdoors
on Hei-Yu's fur when she was sick in bed.  For people who haven't read
that story:

Frank and Nikki take on a distinct woodsy, mossy smell when we're on the
island. The smell lingers for a week or so after we get back to town.
Luckily, neither cat minds me smelling their tummies. :o) Or rubbing
them for that matter.

Ooo. Which brings us to how nuzzleable they are when they are
lying in the sun, their fur all toasty warm!

I've noticed that Betty becomes pretty toasty sleeping most anywhere,
even when it's not in the sun.  On some unexpectedly cold days, I
played "heat vampire" by grabbing a sleeping Betty, holding her close
until our temperatures had equalized, then putting her down so that
she could start building up heat again for the next time. :)

Heat vampire!! I love this. Do you think Betty knows what you're doing,
or does she take the Heat Vampire as a simple snuggler? ;)

I've done this too!  A few days this winter I've caught a chill.  I've been

Felix makes a great heating pad when I have cramps [the purr seems to
help a lot].

Oh yes!  Between about two fingers of Scotch, and a Stinky cuddle, I
think I have the ultimate cramp remedy. ;)

Now that is a great remedy!  When I was pregnant, Willow would curl up by my

If I had a cat that smelled like chocolate that cat might be in trouble! ;)

Hmm... our furry girls don't usually smell like anything. I love it
when they're clean and they smell like my baby shampoo for a few
weeks... their natural scent is umm... (picks up Silver and sniffs)
CAT! lol It must be time for another bath. :)

I love to cuddle them close when they've been lying in a particularly
warm spot - nothing better than a purring hot water bottle!

That's odd that they start to smell.  Vino's almost 6 years old and
has never had a bath and he smells very fresh and clean.  I'd hate to
have to give him baths all the time and I'm sure he would hate it too.

I've never given mine a bath, either. They smell fresh and clean to me
too. Except once I washed one of Nikki's paws for her, because she had
stepped in something icky when we were out for walkies. I held her over
the wash basin while I ran warm water onto her paw. She just hung there.
Just five years ago, I wouldn't even have dared to try it. She's
mellowed a *lot* these last years. ;oP

When I got Oscar, she was a tiny kitten with a bacterial infection, and with
her long fur she made quite a mess out of herself =/  I gave her baths in the
sink.  Neither of us really want to repeat the experience.

This made me curious to see if my cats smelt of "cat" or anything else.
Both KFC & BF are in the kitchen, so I went in to have a sniff.    Kitty was
fast asleep at the side of the fire.  I knelt down and sniffed her fur.  She
doesn't smell catty, she smells of nothing really except "clean." Sort of
like fabric that you buy new but not quite.  It woke her up and she purred
up a storm when she found me with my nose buried in her side :)
BF was doing upside downy head I am unconscious on his bed under the table,
dreaming of Mimi, no doubt..  I decided not to disturb him.  I'll sniff him
tomorrow and report back.  To be honest, I don't think *he* has a smell
either.  I'll let you know.

If you can describe Betty's smell like this, it sounds like a career as a
