Hi Folks,

I don't particularly want to elbourate too much here, but I'd be
grateful for some spare purrs. I need to ask my dad for a huge favour
and he's liable to go balistic and hit the roof when I ask. So please
could I have some good thoughts that things go well?

Thanks

Success purrs coming over, and soothing ones for your dad.

Purrs a-coming.  Asking a parent for a favour is always a bit delicate - or
at least that's what I've found.  Good luck, Helen.

That is like flying blind.  If his answer is "you are to young to drive a
car"  or "that guy is a creep and I don't want you to marry him"  -- I'll
purr that your requested favor is suitable for your age.  MLB

Thanks for the purrs folks, they worked! I had to ask dad to loan me a
considerable amount of money. :o( I got the usual "you have to sort
yourself out" grief, but with nary a quibble he agreed *AND* he was
nice about it. I think Robbie & my mom must have been working on him,
LOL!

That's great news!

Family dynamics are all so different.  We borrowed money from my FIL.  He was
very willing to loan us the money so that we would have a down payment for a
house while interest rates were so low.  Anyway, the remainder of the first
half of the loan is due in a few months, and I encouraged DH to send the check
now; after all, it was an interest-free loan and a favor, and I figure paying
that back is more important than paying off other loans.  Apparently, though,
DH and even FIL don't see it that way.  FIL's response was, "Why would you
want to pay it off early?  It's not due yet."  *boggle*

Glad you got your dilemma solved. Its so hard to borrow from parents
sometimes!!

I totally agree

My parents have been very generous in providing for me for several
years.  I HATE having to ask them for more money, since they give me so
much already.

Purrs for you

I know the feeling.  Mom doesn't mind but Dad gives me major grief.  I
appreciate the help and only ask if I'm desperate but he acts like I'm a
rotten, unnappreciative teenager rather than a middle-aged woman who is down
on her luck.  (sigh)

Glad you got it worked out.  I think a lot of people are in "borrowing"
situations nowdays...sounds like your Dad is pretty cool. :)

Glad things worked out, and some time-travelling purrs added to the mix.

I'm so glad to hear this.  It can be such a difficult thing to do.

Lots of purrs and good thoughts for both you and your dad, Helen.
Sometimes, they fool you and act like humans.  This always surprises my
kids when that happens.

Having had to do something similar in the past, I can sympathize.
Good thoughts from me and lots of "smooth sailing" purrs from the
Fairfax fur kids that he *doesn't* go ballistic.  Hopefully he'll
be understanding, and everything will go well.

I'm going to sneak some purrs to your dad so that he's all softened up for the
favor.

Plenty of "don't ask, don't tell" purrs headed your way from LA.

Pardon me for piggybacking but I came to this thread late.  It sounds like
