Much as I like to b*tch about greedy corporations, it sounds like the family
can't afford the house. Sure, the Act mentioned says that they can't
foreclose while he's in Iraq, but doesn't that just mean it'll be postponed
till he gets back?
It's pretty clear that there's a paperwork screwup somewhere, because if they
knew he was on active duty they wouldn't be doing this. Seems like that to
me, anyway.
Now that there's been news coverage, I'm sure the matter will be resolved.

But when he gets back, he should get more compensation (my nephew got some
anyhow and recently was able to sign up for some other funds) plus he will
go back to firefighter pay. Big difference.

I hope so.

US Military pay for a service member is a joke. That guy is probably
earning about half of what he was getting as a firefighter, and is
probably doing the same work.
Before Rob was diagnosed with his brain tumor, he had a standing job
offer with a aviation company that contracts to fix helicopters for the
US government. He would have been earning $18/an hour to start, about
what he was getting from the Army including all bonuses, and get full
medical coverage, bonuses and so forth. To top it all off, he'd have
been working a 40 hour week and have weekends off, unless there was a
major emergency.
Pam S. Who hopes that Wells Fargo (whom our mortgage is with BTW) gets
their act together and lets these people work something out.

I don't doubt that the pay this guy is receiving isn't enough to pay for the
house. I'm just wondering if it will really help the family if WF waits until
he gets back to foreclose.

If Wells Fargo is willing to work with them, I'm sure there are groups
that are cropping up right now, offering to help this family. Sometimes
media stinks are helpful.
It's also possible that this family is caught in one of the same cluster
f*cks that caught us during Desert Shield/Storm. Rob's unit was sent to
Saudi Arabia from Germany. The unit that handled the pay for his unit
was called Klaiber Concern. Rob's unit called them the Keebler Concern
as it was manned by elves who could do all sorts of magical things to
mess up your pay. In two years, Rob's pay was correct 2 times. We
received a check for some of the mix up after we got to Ft Bliss. We
never did get it all straightened out.

It's good to know we're taking such good care of the people risking their
lives overseas. *sigh*

But we're not at war - technically, anyway.
Just another reason not to allow the President to wage war without
Congress actually declaring it.
