Scout and Silver are obsessed with picking up things they're not
supposed to be playing with and batting them around the floor, or
alternatively sitting there and chewing them to death - things like
twist ties, rubber bands, and chocolate wrappers :( I take them away
whenever I see them and tell them they're being bad girls but it
doesn't seem to sink in...

Anyway, since they like chocolate wrappers so much I just ate a couple
of hersheys kisses and carefully folded the foil up into a small flat
rectangle that they could bat around and chew a little without
accidentally inhaling it... and would they touch it? Of course not!
They looked at me like 'meowmie, are you out of your mind?!'

I found a solution though... I got out the roll of aluminium foil and
scrumpled them up a ball to play with. Silver took immediate
possession and she's contentedly pulling it apart and batting it
around the floor. Oh dear - she just batted it under the dresser,
where all toys go! Never mind - there's another one on the floor... I
guess the cats really do believe that the best toys in life are free!

I went Scout and Silver one better... I got a nice big piece of foil
and a long piece of string... rolled the foil up into a cylinder and
tied the string around the middle. Viola - instant kitty dangler. They
had fun pouncing and leaping and tearing... then my arm got tired so I
tied the string to the door chain so they can play by themselves. The
charm seems to have worn off, but it kept them energetically leaping
for at least fifteen minutes and it didn't cost me a cent :)

Every two weeks when the furniture gets moved during house
cleaning I find caches of toys like this. When I smoked, my
cat's favorite toy in the world was a crumpled up cigarette
pack. She was one that would always be more fascinated
with the string that came with the cat toy than with the
toy itself. I had to watch her to make sure she didn't ingest
any.

I think all kiyyies like twist ties. Light enough to bat around. Daisy
likes rubber bands, too. So every day, when I bring in the newspaper, I
have to go straight to the trash can & throw away the rubber band. I
can't just take It off & sit down to read the paper.  The aluminum foil
toy sounds good to me. i guess if it hurt their teeth, like it does
ours, they wouldn't play w/it. A friend who used to smoke would crumple
the cellophane cig wrapper. She found many of them everywhere.
