I decided to take Fez and Rufous on their first walk outside today. I
got the harness and put it on Fez first. He didn't seem to mind it one
bit (the rest of the cats seem to suffer a mild paralysis when fitted
with the harness), so I carried him to the deck. He was very sure of
himself and did not show any apprehension at all. He surveyed the deck
and the walked onto the granite and went around the cat enclosure. He
smelled *everything* and even went into the "alley" between the house
and the fence. I carried him over to the pond to see the fish, but the
sound of water did not appeal to him one bit. I then decided he had had
enough, so it was Rufous' turn. He wasn't as self-assured as his brother
was at first, but he warmed up quickly and started exploring. His
favorite thing was definitely the tall grasses Tom keeps in pots by the
cat enclosure. He had a snack there, which I'm afraid I might have to
clean up later...
It wasn't bad for their first time outside, both boys seem to have
enjoyed it (unlike Issa, who started crying the moment I put him down on
the grass a few years ago, he hasn't been out since). We might do this a
weekly event!

Aww, walkies are so nice! It's still too cold here, even for Nikki to go
out. She was asking at the door today, and I put the harness on her and
off we went. But at the door to the Out she stopped, stood and sniffed a
long long time, then turned back and went running up the stairs.

TuTu braved the back patio for about 10 minutes today. My daffodils are
up about 6 inches -- also the tulips. MLB

Heh, no daffodils or tulips here - there's a thick covering of snow and
it's below freezing.

Yep, here too. And the dogwoods.
And for all the people who have no better sense than to live in the
north, where it's still snowing and stuff, a good sign - I saw geese
flying north this weekend, so spring is on its way for you too. ;-)

For those who know. Saw birds headed north yesterday. A small flock of
about fifteen that looked exactly like geese but were coal black. Anyone
know what that would be?

Here in NYC:
Good news: The crocuses have broken the earth
Bad news: We may be getting 9" of snow tonight. ;)

I just saw that! We (NC) just got cold rain, but West Virginia
got eight inches. Stay in and stay warm! (The crocuses often
push their little heads through the snow, or did when I lived
in NY. But maybe not through 9 inches!)

Wish we would get 9 inches of snow here. Am tired of a brown winter.

We're getting the edge of that storm, as rain. Saw a flock of ducks
flying north during the weekend. Hope they don't freeze their little
feeties off.

LOL! Don't listen to 'em! We were supposed to get 10 inches, but by
this morning, there was nothing at all. They even closed all (and I
do mean ALL) of the schools in the area, the Fed Gov was on
unscheduled leave, and there was NO SNOW FALLING FROM THE SKY. Uh,
ahem. lol It finally started a few hours later, but even now with it
winding down, there is maybe 2".
Stay warm!

I've got something pink blooming that I think is related to some kind of
rose. It's really pretty, but the weather changes have damaged the
blooms this year.

Here in Nashville, Tennessee, I have a bed of daffodils in full bloom
(unusually early), but we are predicted to get snow tonight, with a
low below freezing. The forecasters aren't expecting any
accumulation, as the ground is too warm, but I wonder how well my
daffodils will fare.

How about daily? A week would seem a very long time to a cat. MLB

I can attest - they have little calendars tucked under their fur. Persia
knows exactly when it's Saturday and she's supposed to get her 'gooshy
food'. She starts pestering me much earlier on Saturdays!

I know Felix gets confused if Bob puts on his suit on a day other than
Sunday (he's gotten used to seeing me in skirts on weekdays).

Yep. My RB Mike used to watch me get dressed to see what shoes I'd put
on; anything but tennis shoes and he go back to sleep, but tennis shoes
meant I was staying home and he'd stay awake. :-)

It sounds like they are doing pretty good. My son takes Robin out on
the leash once in awhile. He tries to run away from it sometimes.
Other times his attention gets caought by something and he forgets he
is "tied up". Lat week when i took a walk with them, Robin wasn't too
keen on waling ip the driveway in the cold wind; but he did well
coming back to the house; although his belly was a bit low to the
ground.
