I get the biggest kick out of just watching Molly and Jake interact.
Molly raised a litter of kittens before we got her, and one in a while she
gets the uncontrollable urge to wash Jake's face.  In true momma cat fashion
this is done by knocking him down and sitting on him while she cleans his
face.  Unfortunately for her, he is bigger, stronger, and older than she is
and doesn't remember his momma.  He puts up with it until he remembers he is
bigger and stronger etc.

This is usually followed by a game of chase that lasts until they
forget who is chasing and who is running and go to sleep.

This is even funnier with Mr. Clark, who was adopted as an adult
simultaneously with the kittens. He doesn't let former tomcathood (he
was neutered as an adult) keep him from parental duties. Indeed, he's
been much happier since I grew a beard; it's more like fur to wash. In
general, he gets on top of me and grooms me when I turn out the light at
bedtime.

He did manage a martyred expression when he permitted the kittens to
nurse on him.

I love it when they do that!  My Mom always had cats that got along -
she called them her "train wreck of kittens" on the bed because they
always slept in a pile.  My cats hate each other - always have.  They
used to play together some when they were little but they still merely
tolerate each other.  They both really like the dogs, though, which I
find fascinating.  They will sleep with them, groom them, let
themselves be groomed by them - everything!

Your subject line reminds me of how cats' *presence* multiplies
geometrically, not arithmetically.  I have mostly been a one-cat
person for several years now, for various reasons, but I remember when
I had two, it seemed there were cats *everywhere.*  ;)  They certainly
seemed to magically materialize wherever I looked.  There are times
when Stinky is asleep, and just out of the way.  When I had the two,
there was always a cat around.
