According to my map program (MS Streets & Trips 2004), University Drive is
also US 72. Looks like a major highway through town. Not necessarily the
downtown business district, but a place where the malls, resteraunts &
hotels seem to congregate. From what I can discern, the downtown section is
further east & south of "motel row"

Thanks! I've been checking and sent John back some info which will go out
in the mail tomorrow. It's amazing the difference in rates from all these
places. I'm reading customer reviews (if available); I'm not all that picky
but I do insist the room be clean. We did have a blast at a place in Iowa
which was - well, a dive. He came back one day from getting ice from the
machine in the office and said, "Uh, the guy behind the desk had his 'Hot
Pocket' for lunch in the ice machine." Oh, nice ;) Wasn't nearly as bad as
the motel we stayed at where they had 'garages' to hide your car in case you
were doing the 'No-tell Motel' thing and needed to hide your car. I swear
to god, the room was so tiny if you misstepped out of the shower you'd have
fallen into the toilet! We laughed. Hell, it was a place to sleep and only
for one night since we were on the road.

There is (or was - I haven't been in that neighborhood in a long time)
a motel on Lebanon Pike, Nashville, Tennessee, that advertised hourly
rates. That is making no bones about being a "hot sheets house".

LOL I've seen places like that myself and I'm sure this used to be one of
them. But lots of those places are being bought up by Indians and run as
regular motels. They are cheap, clean. But, with this particular place
having a garage built-in next to every room it would have cost them a
fortune to remodel and make the room and bathroom bigger! I can't remember
what tiny town this was in - we'd been on the road for hours and *all* the
motels looked like this so we just picked one.

I lived in HSV for almost 10-years. The festival (Panoply) is held on
the green in fron of teh Von Braun Civic Center. The best hotel for this
locations is:

QKIYFC3UUC?ctyhocn=HSVHIHF
It's about the only hotel that is walking distance, if you stay on
University, you'll need transport.
