Yup, Speedy has been trained to know who is boss. How does a 23 pound
cat train a 43 pound d-thing to know who is boss? Well, QC did it like
this.
First you take the most recent member of the family to return home to
live. In our case it is Mike. Mike is well liked by all the cats and
likes all the cats in return. He also likes d-things. QC decided that
this was not acceptable. Speedy used to sleep in the living room near
the entertainment center. Mike sleeps in the living room on the sofa.
Do you see where this is heading yet?
Mike couldn't figure out why Speedy was suddenly avoiding him. He likes
Speedy, wants to be friends with Speedy, but every time he'd hold his
hand out and call Speedy, the d-thing would whine and back away from the
area. It has finally gotten so that Speedy won't sleep in the living
room any more. Worse, he won't enter a room for any reason if Mike is
in it. Mike was worried and upset. Did I mention that mike likes d-things?
A couple of nights ago, Mike woke up in the middle of the night. He is
usually a sound sleeper, but a cat growling by his head was a definite
inducement to abandon sleep. He sat up straight and looked at the head
of the sofa where QC had been sleeping earlier. QC was bunched up, fur
puffed out and a menacing growl was erupting from his throat. The
object of his attention was slowly backing away from the door to the
living room. Speedy decided that he didn't need to sleep in the entry
way and that the dining room was just fine after all.
Now I expect QC to work on teaching Speedy not to squeak his squeaky
toys. I hope Speedy wins on this one as he really loves them. He also
loves the fact that the cats hate the noise and will puff up and look as
though they have head aches when he squeaks his toys.
Score: cats 5, Speedy 1

Poor Speedy! I hope he finds a comfortable place to sleep. :)
I saw a d-thing being walked yesterday. He had a BIG (fabric?
plastic?) bone in his mouth. Just trotting along, taking his pet bone
for a walk. :)
