Saturday we went on a photo safari and took Boone with us.  Oliver
stayed home (when he saw us gathering stuff up he dived under the bed).
We were gone about 5 hours.  When we got home Oliver met us at the
door and he was VERY talkative.  I swear he was demanding an explanation
of where we were and why we were gone so long.  I had never seen him
like that before.  Then I realized that ordinarily he is never left
totally alone for more than an hour or two.  Usually he has Boone to
keep him company.  We do take Boone out for walks or on trips to the dog
park but  usually we're gone for a much shorter time.  I wonder at what
point Oliver started to get worried.  Maybe when it started to get dark?
He was very talkative and extremely affectionate to all of us the rest
of the night.  It was nice to be appreciated.  ;-)

That sounds amazingly like Smokie Darling.  DH and I go on little trips
every 2 or 3 months.  When we get home, she must be telling us what the
other "meanies" did.  She talks constantly, and rubs the legs, and
tries to trip the Meowmie (meowmy?), which is rather frightening when I
think what would happen were I to fall on her.

Of course, Smokie doesn't care for anyone other than us (with the
possible exception of my father).  So she won't come out and let
Grandma (mother-in-law) love on her.  She hides under the bed.  Silly
little thing.

We've discovered that if I call the house and leave her messages on the
machine, she is a little calmer, but how silly do I feel talking to a
machine so my furbaby won't be so lonely?  Really sad when someone
overhears me talking <blush>.

LOL!  When my husband is on business trips he calls and talks to each of
our boys.  I do notice that he always waits until he is alone in his
hotel room. :-)

Have you seen those pet aids you can get where you can record your voice
and it will play back at a later time?  The latest one I saw was
attached to an automatic feeder.

Well, I have learned, through hard experience, that leaving voice mails
is not always a good idea.  We aren't sure which of the three does it,
but...

Someone disconnects my answering machine, knocks it on the ground (it
is rather small), apparently trying to find meowmy/ie (which is the
preferred spelling?) in that little tiny thing!  Makes for a miserable
time when we have missed messages (oh well).  I still do it, just not
as often.

Smokie Darling (Annie) - who can't imagine why the masters/mistresses
would think that she could fit in that thing, considering the size
differential.  The barking furbaby gets to stay at grandma's house, she
doesn't miss us at all.

oliver is such a cute boy. Frank tells me off if I go out at night. He
hates that.

It is touching that these "aloof, non affectionate animals" miss us when
we're gone!
