Our kitty Ripley had to have emergency surgery today for bladder stones.
She is most likely having it now as I type this.
I posted a couple of Ripley pics over on the binary group a.b.p.a

I'm hoping there is no kidney damage and that the little girl will come
through fine and be back home tomorrow.
Our male tux cat Jack has been acting anxious all day and has been following
me around. He knows Ripley is gone and actually seems kind of worried.

Anyway thanks for any and all good thoughts.

I'm about to leave the office right now and will instruct my five to
send purrs and meatloaf meditations for Ripley and her Paw.  Let us know
as soon as you do, how she's doing.

Many purrs, and hope that the surgery gives immense relief.

Mega-purrs and purr-ayers are on the way! Please let us know how she's
doing, when you get a chance.

Also, purrs for the rest of the family, both two- and four-legged, are on
the way. I think everyone here can empathize with how nerve-wracking it is
to wait, at times like this.

You've got surgery/recovery purrs coming for Ripley calming purrs for Jack
and you.  Persia had surgery for bladder stones last year and came through
just fine.

Ok, just heard from the vet. He said Ripley came through the surgery just
fine and is recovering as we speak. I am greatly relieved. I'll know more
tomorrow but looks now like she will be able to come home then.

The doctor did say that she had *numerous* stones and they were "spiney" in
shape so they clung to her bladder and surrounding areas and were stubborn
to remove.

Thanks everybody for the kind words, thoughts, and mostly purrs from all
family members.

Good news!  Now, I'm not going to question your vet but I was out of town
when Persia had her emergency surgery (she was being boarded at the vet).
He said it was just as well because he wanted to keep her a couple of days.
The difference, I guess, is that she had a cyst (benign) in her bladder that
was exacerbating the stones.  He said the cyst was a lot like diverticulitus
in the intestines of humans.

Don't be surprised if the vet puts Ripley on special food.  Persia has to
have Hill's x/d formula to prevent crystalline oxolate stones from forming
in the future.  Luckily she loves the stuff!

Continued purrs.  Hope she gets to come home tomorrow.  Give Jack some
scritches for me :)

That's great news!!  We'll continue purring, however, just to be sure
everything continues improving.

I might have spoke too soon. They may indeed keep Ripley for two days, she
may not come home today. I'm waiting to hear from the vet now with an
update.

Ripley will unquestionably need to be put on special food. Hope she ends up
liking it as much as Persia liked her special diet. The other two cats will
present a bit of a problem with all this. They are all free eater, there is
always some dry food out in bowls for them to snack on. This may have to
end.

After a surgery like that, they like to make sure they rest and are back to
eating before going home. Continued purrs for a quick recovery.

Not sure it would hurt the other cats to eat the same special food - ask
your vet.  Might prevent problems in the future!

Continued purrs on the way for Ripley, Jack and you!

I didn't come to this thread in time to send purrs for the surgery, but
we'll be purring for Ripley to recover quickly and never get kidney
stones again.

All our best purrs and healing thoughts will be heading Ripley's way.
I saw the pictures on a.b.p.a -- what a beauty she is.  Is she by any
chance named after Ellen Ripley, the courageous heroine of the "Alien"
series of films?

Take a few deep breaths and remind yourself that all that can be done
is being done.  Here's hoping she'll be back home ASAP.

Regards and Purrs,

Heh heh, yes she is. When we brought her home as a tiny kitten we decided
she needed a strong female name to help her stand up to the 'big boys', our
other two male cats. Well Ripley did fine, she never hid or acted afraid.
