ARGH! My ISP has apparently dropped RPCA. Does anyone else out there
use Cox cable internet and if so, are you having the same problems?  At
least Google works for me at the moment.

Every once in a while, that happens to me. Usually, if I go back and
resubscribe it is there.

Hi Caroline -

I haven't used my Cox news access since last weekend, but I could get
RPCA then.  I'll check it when I get home and see if it's still there.
I have noticed it hiccups from time to time, so hopefully that's all it
is.  The last time it did that to me, I unsubbed and resubbed, and
things were happy again.

I'll let you know one way or the other.

You are probably using the east server - news.east.cox.net - alot of
people have been having this problem with the east server but not
everyone. It just depends on which backend server you get connected to -
which is determined by cox and your mac address. Switch to
news.central.cox.net or news.west.cox.net and rpca should be available.
In time rpca will return to the east server when Cox fixes the backend
server in question that is having the problem.

As of 10:22 AM EST, looks like the Cox east server is behaving.  I'm on
it and have current messages.  If you've tried resubscribing and that
hasn't helped, the idea of tapping the Cox central or west servers is
well worth a try.  I may set those up as fall back sources at some
point.

Thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately, none has worked.  I'll keep
trying, then I'll call Cox and complain.  What's weird is that I get
some newsgroups, just not my favorite.  Plus, it shows up in the groups
available, and lets me subscribe, but then says it's not available when
I try to get messages.

There is some discussion of this phenomenon in
cox.internet.discussion.newsgroups.  It might be a front end server
issue.  No real answer for the problem, but you're not alone.
Supposedly, Cox is going to be doing upgrades to their NNTP service over
the next 45-60 days.  It will probably get worse before it gets better
if it does indeed get better.  I wouldn't be too surprised if they pull
and AOL on us.

I think it would still be good to report the problem.
