New on my precocious, 16-month-old nephew
(pictures here: http://community.webshots.com/album/202224436AQsmdy)

He talks from dawn to bedtime.  He repeats everything he hears-- and
understands a LOT.  A couple of nights ago, he gave my brother the
slip after he had a bath, and was rampaging around the house.  "Dude,
you're naked!" my brother said to him (this is how my brother talks to
him ;)).  Every night since, after his bath, he's gone tearing around
the house, yelling "Naked Naked Naked!" ;)

Well, that's what he hears his mommy calling him - and I guess it's better
than "dude"!!  ;>

The baby running round yelling "Naked naked naked!''-- it just made me
think of a bacchanale, with worshippers of Dionysus running around
waving their grape vines and yelling "Evoe!''  He's such a little
hedonist. ;)

Hah!

It reminds me of the twins I babysat as a kid.  They were girls about seven
years old, big fans of Speedy Gonzales.  They thought they were saying what he
said when they ran around the house shouting,

"Ariba, ariba!  Underwear, underwear!"

Loved the mental picture and the memory.  When my now very much grown up
daughter was a toddler she loved to escape soaking wet after her bath and
run down the hall shrieking.

Hee hee. The baby's father-- my little brother-- loved to run around
buck nekkid too, when he was tiny.  Once when my mom said to him,
"Come on, time to get some clothes on," he froze in place, and
declared "I'm a statue!"  ;)

That reminds me of a scene fairly early in the novel _The Homeward
Bounders_, by Diana Wynne Jones.  A young English boy is looking at a
naked statue of Prometheus in a garden, and wonders why the sculptor
left out the goose-bumps.

Cute!  I have a 13 month-old so I can sort of relate.  It's just so fun
seeing them grow and change from month to month. :)

LOL!!! He sounds like a sweetie.

If that's how quickly he picks up vocabulary, everyone will have to make
sure not to repeat any words in front of him that they don't want to hear
a zillion times. (Such as the vocabulary that many of us utter when we're
behind the wheel and a careless driver has cut us off... ;o) )

Seriously, though, big :o)s to your nephew!

Ah, the memories. I was at some friends about 10 years ago. They had a
little guy who hadn't been changed in too long. The babysitter pulled off
his Pull-Up and exclaimed "OOOH! Blue penis!". Well, the little guy used
that as his trademark the rest of the night, proudly anouncing to everyone
"Boo penis!".

We got a good laugh.

It doesn't involve a naked baby, but when I was visiting my relatives
in Washington State earlier this month, my uncle referred to himself as
"an old fart. at the dinner table one night"  His eight year-old grand-
daughter  Jordan was also at the table, and you could almost see the
light bulb go on over her head as she soaked up this fascinating new
naughty word.  When she called her DAD "An Old Fart" though, a
discussion ensued. =o) Kids will pick up and remember an amazing
variety of things.
