This time when I got two roses I put the vase on a counter where
Mischief does not go.

But since my counters are crowded, I moved it to the kitchen table when
I was cooking.......and forgot to put it back

This morning, the vase was knocked over, one rose was covered in teeth
marks, and the other rose had been dragged to the kitchen floor, also
covered in teeth marks.

*SIGH*

I have warned my roommate to keep an eye on the bouquet of roses she
got from her boyfriend.

Oh dear!  I suppose they taste very yummy?  I was amazed when shopping for
Valentine's Day dinner how many women were carrying bouquets of flowers out
of the store.

Seriously, if you are sure they haven't been sprayed with pesticides,
rose petals are quite nice in salads -- especially fruity ones, amd some
desserts.  The flavor isn't too distinctive, just sweet with an aroma.

You can get rose water intended for cooking in South Asian ethnic
markets (and probably others). It's a very good dessert sweetening.

Interesting thought.  We have roses in our back yard.  I'll have to try that
this summer.

Voilets (not the African variety) are also edible and sugared violets are
often used to decorate cakes.  Never tried it myself but they make a pretty
presentation.

My Calvin used to try to drink the water in the vase.  Never mind the
opening was only 2 inches across and stuffed with stems!  Obviously
more appealing than their nice, fresh water bowl!  And, in the case of
wild flowers, it was such fun to paw at the little bugs crawling down
onto the table!

Sometimes upscale natural food stores have edible flowers.  Violets are
easy to candy.  All you need is a paint brush, powdered egg white and
superfine sugar.  Makes a nice decoration for those of us whose icing
roses look like pink blobs!
Also, I like nasturtiums  in salads for their color and spicy bite, and
lavender buds in sugar cookie dough makes them unique.  (I like to play
with my food! :))  PatM

Really, it could be worse.  My RB Mikey liked to *spray* roses if he
could get to them.  :-D
