(brief translator's note: chook = Australian for chicken. Not certain,
but the same term may be used in NZ as well...?)

A couple of my neighbours' free range hens have been hanging around my
backyard lately. This afternoon I was out doing some yard work when I
spied a pair of chook feet from under the bush I was pruning. Couldn't
see the top half of the chook as the bush was in the way.

This chook was jumping straight up in the air every few seconds and
landing in the same spot. I couldn't help but be reminded of a punk
rocker of my youth doing the pogo. Mrs Chook even had on the right
jewellery, having a studded band tastefully fixed around one leg.

When I went to investigate further, it turned out that there was a good
reason for Mrs Chook's odd behaviour. Above her head was a nice fat
bunch of grapes hanging down from one of my vines. With every jump in
the air, she was helping herself to another grape off the bunch.

Wish I'd had a camera handy.

To keep it all on-topic, Arthur the cat has decided the chooks are a bit
too big to be real birds, so he's decided that he just can't see them.

I wondered what the cats thought. That is an hysterical mind picture. I wish
you had a camera too!!

A few years ago I was lucky enough to have a video camera handy when some of
my chickens were doing exactly this pogo thing to pick blackberries.
